A student reported his grey Bianchi SISS mountain bicycle missing from a bike rack at Kennedy. It had been secured with a cable lock.

A student reported his moped missing from outside of Sharp Apartments. It had not been secured. The student was unsure exactly how long it had been missing.
July 9
A student reported his bike was taken from the bike rack at the Law School. The bike had been secured with a cable lock.
July 7
A campus visitor reported that her purse was taken from her vehicle while it was parked in the Schoenberg parking lot. Entry had been made by breaking a window.
A student reported that someone entered his off-campus house in the 300 block of East Ermina while he was away and took several electronics items. Entry is believed to have been made through an unsecured window. Spokane Police were contacted.

Students reported that a white male in his 40’s exposed himself and ran away while they were playing tennis at Mission Park (east of campus) at about 9:00 PM on July 1.

A student reported her car was broken into and several items taken while it was parked in the 800 block of East Ermina.

A non-student reported to GU Security that his vehicle was broken into and a laptop and backpack taken while it was parked in the 1300 block of North Standard.
A student reported his 2000 Honda Civic missing from the Chardin parking lot. It was later recovered in another part of town missing a stereo and toolbox.
Assault reported north of campus
July 4, 2012UPDATE at 10:55 PM: Spokane Police reported that the investigation indicates this was NOT an assault.
A Gonzaga student contacted Security from a blue light phone near Corkery at 9:47 PM tonight and reported that he had been stabbed in the arm and was bleeding. Security responded and provided first aid until Fire/EMS arrived. The student reported that a male subject had stabbed him two blocks north of campus near Standard and Augusta. The student could not provide Security any other details regarding the subject or the incident. The student was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Spokane Police are investigating.
SPD News Release: “Remove it or Lose It” Campaign
June 27, 2012Spokane Police Crime Analysis experts have seen a 38% increase in vehicle prowling activity in the past year and while SPD continues to combat these crimes by responding to and arresting offenders, the department is taking a proactive approach with the “Remove it or Lose it” campaign. The campaign offers tips to prevent vehicle prowling from information gathered from victims of the crime (most had left valuables in sight, etc.)
“Remove it or Lose it” offers the following tips to citizens:
- Park your car in a well lit or high traffic area
- Don’t leave valuables in plain sight inside your car
- Keep your car doors locked
- When shopping, lock bags in the trunk
- If you see someone in your car, call 911

A Gonzaga student reported her vehicle was broken into and an Ipod cable was taken while it was parked at her off-campus residence in the 400 block of East Augusta.
Gonzaga Security observed a subject attempting to steal a bike at about 8:00 PM at the SW Kennedy Apartment bike rack. The subject rode away when security attempted contact. Anotehr subject with him was contacted and trespassed.
June 12
Gonzaga Security observed two male subjects at the SW Kennedy bike rack at 3:00 AM. One of the subjects was carrying a pair of bolt cutters, and both ran when contacted. The subjects were recognized from a previous bike theft attempt.
A Gonzaga student reported her vehicle was broken into and an Ipod and other items taken while it was parked at her off-campus residence in the 1000 block of East Boone.
June 10
A visitor reported her yellow Norco bike missing from a bike rack on the east side of Dussault Apartments. It had been secured with a cable lock.
SPD Press Release: arrests made in cell phone thefts
May 29, 2012Spokane Police Department Patrol Anti Crime Team (PACT) members arrested a husband and wife for 1st degree trafficking in stolen property. The incident started on 022812, at 1:20 in the afternoon in the 5800 block of N. Division. 20-year-old Vladimir Stepanov and his 22 year old wife, Yuliya Stepanov asked the victim if they could borrow their phone. The Stepanov’s kept the phone and fled the area in a black 2009 Ford Focus. A District 81 Security Officer heard the broadcast and was aware of similar incidents involving that type of vehicle near local schools. He provided a license plate number and PACT members found them driving in the area of Wellesley/Nevada at 3:00 PM. Through the investigation, it was determined that Vladimir and Yuliya had stolen numerous phones in the same manner and have been responding to Craigslist adds to sell them.
The Spokane Police Department and District 81 security are working together to put related cases together. We are asking anyone who has been the victim or witness to this type of crime to call Crime Check at 456-2233 with any information you might have. Vladimir and Yuliya were both booked into jail for 1st degree trafficking in stolen property and theft.

Person of Interest – Tilford suspicious person
May 25, 2012This individual is a person of interest in a panhandling incident and suspicious activity at Tilford on May 22nd at about 5 PM. The individual is reported to have requested money from a student. He may also be entering office areas. Please contact campus security at 313-2222 if you see him.

Additional information on arrests from this morning’s robbery
May 10, 2012An iPhone tracker application was activated, which utilized a GPS system to locate the suspect’s vehicle. Spokane Police were able to stop the vehicle and gather enough evidence to arrest Tayone Akers (12/27/91), Anthony Walker (10/4/91), Ronald Scott (8/6/93) and two 16 year old females. All parties were charged with two counts of 1st Degree Robbery and one count of 2nd Degree Assault. SPD Officers were able to retrieve all of the stolen belongings.
Strongarm robbery reported near Sinto & Standard early this morning
May 10, 2012UPDATE: Spokane Police located and arrested three subjects for robbery and aggravated assault within an hour after the incident.
Three Gonzaga students reported they were walking northbound near Sinto and Standard this morning at about 2:10 AM when a vehicle pulled up and two females exited. The females demanded the purse of one of the students, and then took the purse by physical force and re-entered the vehicle. Two males then exited the vehicle and punched a male student. All of the subjects then fled in the vehicle.
Spokane Police and Gonzaga Security responded. Two students were treated for minor injuries at the scene. No weapons were reported. Police are actively investigating.
Gonzaga community members are reminded of the following safety tips:
- If you have to walk, do so in groups especially after dark. Try to use well-lit, busy routes. Be aware of your surroundings.
- Utilize Saferide or taxi service if you need a ride back to your residence from an off-campus location: call 568-8000.
- Utilize Security escorts to travel across campus: 313-2222.
- Report suspicious persons or circumstances immediately to GU Security (313-2222) or SPD (911).
- Once you are in safe place, report all crimes immediately to police at 911 and GU Security at 313-2222.
Gonzaga student reports cell phone theft north of campus late Friday
May 7, 2012A Gonzaga student reported she was walking with another student north of campus near Cincinnati and Mission at approximately 10:55 PM On May 4 when a blue Ford two-door sedan with racing stripes on the side stopped adjacent to them and the male driver asked to use a cell phone. The students described the subject as a white male adult in his mid to late twenties with blond, close-cropped hair on the sides of his head and longer hair on top. The students advised the male subject spoke with a “Eastern European” accent. The students also observed a female in the front passenger seat. The student handed him her “T-Mobile Galaxy 5” smart phone. The subject advised the number had not connected and asked if he could pull the vehicle forward toward the curb. When the student agreed, the subject accelerated northbound on Cincinnati across Mission at a high rate of speed with her phone. Spokane Police responded and are investigating.

May 3, 2012Stabbing Victim Dies of her Injuries; SPD Searching for Suspect in this Random Attack
The woman attacked this morning while walking her dog in North Spokane has died as a result of the stab wounds she sustained. Spokane Police have flooded the area with resources to investigate this incident and ensure public safety. Detectives have detained a man matching the suspect description given by witnesses and are working to determine if this individual is responsible for the attack. The motive of this incident has not been established, however detectives believe this was a random attack.
Details: At 8:11 this morning a 55 year old woman was walking her dog, alone on a walking trail near the area of 1800 E. South Riverton. According to the victim’s description of the incident, a man jumped out of the bushes, stabbed her several times and fled. The victim screamed for help and made her way up the street where a nearby construction worker heard her cries, rushed over, administered as much first aid as he could and called 9-1-1. Medics arrived moments later and transported the victim to an emergency trauma center where she died of her injuries. The victim’s dog was unharmed in the incident.
Immediately after the emergency call, Spokane Police brought in additional resources to the area, including additional officers and a canine unit in an attempt to locate the suspect. Additionally, SPD alerted nearby Cooper Elementary School of the potential danger and worked with school officials to ensure the safety of the children and staff.
Spokane Police Detectives have developed a suspect description based on details obtained from the victim as well as interviews with those living near the area of the attack. The suspected attacker is described as a black male in his early to mid 30s wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Neighbors say they had seen a man matching this description in the area recently. Spokane Police detectives have detained a person matching this description but are still investigating to determine if this is the suspect.
This incident is especially concerning due to the brazen and random nature of the attack in broad daylight and Spokane Police are dedicating a vast amount of resources to ensure the safety of citizens and to apprehend the person responsible for this attack.
GSBA SafeRide Program ends this Sunday
May 1, 2012GSBA SafeRide Program ends this Sunday and will resume Fall semester. Security escorts on campus and in the near neighborhood continue to be available 24/7.
