Suspicious Persons Reported
June 22, 2011Two female visitors to GU reported that around 10:40 PM yesterday evening (June 21), while walking in the area 1100 block of Standard near DeSmet Circle, a silver in color sedan stopped near them. There were three males in the vehicle, described as late twenties/early thirties, all with “scruffy” facial hair. The passenger asked the two if they wanted to “go for a ride”. The two immediately went to a group of people in vicinity of the incident without making contact with the vehicle and reported the incident to a staff member. They reported seeing the vehicle a few moments later on Dakota adjacent to Welch Residence hall and then slowly driveway towards Hamilton.
GU Security responded and checked the area for the vehicle, which could not be located. Gonzaga community members are reminded of the following safety tips:
- If you have to walk, do so in groups especially after dark. Try to use well-lit, busy routes. Be aware of your surroundings.
- Utilize Security escorts to travel across campus: 313-2222.
- Once you are in safe place, report suspicious persons or circumstances immediately to GU Security (313-2222) or SPD (911).

Two 1998 Hondas stolen last week
April 12, 2011
Two 1998 Hondas were reported stolen last week, one on-campus and one off-campus. This likely means that somebody has a “shaved” key”, which is frequently used on mid and late-90 Hondas. The car thief is hard to catch, because they can quickly enter and start the car without drawing attention. If you own one of these Hondas, seriously consider investing $30 in a steering wheel lock.

April 7, 2011What would you do?
April 6, 2011While incidents like yesterday’s subject with a knife are rare on campus, we need to keep in mind that Gonzaga is an open campus. Even with security patrols, cameras, and great support from the Spokane Police Department, crimes can and do happen occasionally. Campo encourages everyone to take a few minutes to think about what you should do if confronted with an individual with a weapon. A good place to start is our “Active Shooter” webpage, which includes a link to a video with some great guidance for surviving an encounter with a person with a weapon.
