{"id":1139,"date":"2009-09-15T10:15:29","date_gmt":"2009-09-15T18:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.gonzaga.edu\/campo\/?p=1139"},"modified":"2009-12-22T10:56:02","modified_gmt":"2009-12-22T18:56:02","slug":"spokane-police-to-do-pedestrian-emphasis-patrol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.gonzaga.edu\/campo\/2009\/09\/15\/spokane-police-to-do-pedestrian-emphasis-patrol\/","title":{"rendered":"Spokane Police to do Pedestrian Emphasis Patrol"},"content":{"rendered":"<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Pedestrian Emphasis near Gonzaga on Thursday<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The Spokane Police Department\u2019s Traffic Unit has had an increase in the number of complaints of drivers failing to yield in crosswalks.\u00a0 Thursday, September 17th,\u00a0we will focus our efforts in the\u00a0Gonzaga area with an emphasis patrol for pedestrian safety.\u00a0 The\u00a0college district near Hamilton and Sharp\u00a0will be the focus of the emphasis.\u00a0 Sharp west of Hamilton is a 25 mile per hour zone because of the amount of pedestrians headed to Gonzaga.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers are reminded that not all crosswalks are marked.\u00a0 In fact, most crosswalks in the city are not.\u00a0 The law states a driver\u00a0of an approaching vehicle shall stop and remain stopped to allow a pedestrian or bicycle to cross the roadway within an unmarked or marked crosswalk when the pedestrian or bicycle is upon or within one lane of the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling or onto which it is turning.
