This morning at about 2:00 am four Gonzaga students were walking in the area of Nora and Cincinnati when they were approached by three males carrying nightstick-type clubs.\u00a0 <\/span>The suspects took wallets and other valuables and then fled the area.\u00a0 <\/span>GU Security and two GU-contracted Spokane Police patrol units arrived within one minute of receiving the call, but were unable to locate the suspects.\u00a0 <\/span>The students were not injured.\u00a0 <\/span>The wallets, minus the cash, were found nearby. One suspect was described as male, white or Hispanic. The other two suspects were described as male, African-American, all were wearing hoodies. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Shortly after that situation was reported, a student reported that she and companions were walking in the area of Standard and Baldwin and were robbed in a way that resembled the earlier report.\u00a0 <\/span>No one was injured in the second incident and the suspects fled the area. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The safest course of action during a robbery is to not resist or attempt to retain valuables.\u00a0 <\/span>There is a greater risk of harm by potentially escalating the situation. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The University will continue to contract with Spokane Police department for additional coverage of the campus and neighborhood, including this Saturday and Sunday night.\u00a0 <\/span>If you feel threatened or are the victim of a crime, get to a safe place as quickly as possible and call 911 immediately for police response.\u00a0 <\/span>The Spokane Police are the primary agency for emergency response in the neighborhood.\u00a0 <\/span>Always call 911 first.\u00a0 <\/span>Call 911 to report suspicious, threatening, or criminal behavior. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Students should exercise caution when walking, particularly at night.\u00a0 <\/span>It is advisable to avoid walking alone and avoid areas that tend to be poorly lit and offer concealment.\u00a0 <\/span>Arranging for private transportation, such as a calling a friend, designated driver, SafeRide, or other taxi, is also advisable.\u00a0 <\/span>Gonzaga Campus Public Safety & Security offers escorts in the neighborhood, subject to certain limitations.\u00a0 <\/span>Call 313-2222 to contact the Security dispatcher.\u00a0 <\/span>For more information about crime prevention and staying safe, call the Security Crime Prevention Specialist at 313-3998.
