Spokane Police See Dramatic Rise in Honda Thefts<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
The Spokane Police Department has received nearly 70 reports of vehicle thefts involving late 80’s to early 90’s model Hondas since the 19th of October.\u00a0 That is almost\u00a0double the average amount we normally see during that time frame.\u00a0 In response to the increase, Patrol and the Targeted Crime’s Unit stepped up efforts to arrest people on the Repeat Offenders program to try and curb the thefts.\u00a0 Over the weekend they affected ten arrests on known car thieves in the area and police were able to recover 50 of the stolen vehicles.<\/p>\n

The arrestees for Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle include: 35 year old James T. Harris, 33 year old Gabieal M. Hansen, 22 year old Daniel J. Maddock, and 28 year old Brandon L. Witters.\u00a0Twenty-two year old Timothy J. Lubben was arrested for Theft of\u00a0a Motor Vehicle and 28 year old Leslie J. Olson was arrested for Taking Motor Vehicle without Permission among other charges.<\/p>\n

Repeat Offender 34 year old Cephas W. Parham was arrested on outstanding felony warrants for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.\u00a0 Officers responded to an address in the Shadle area after receiving information Parham was there.\u00a0 Parham attempted to flee on foot but was contacted by Ofc. Gorman’s K9 Max.\u00a0 Parham fought with the dog several times,\u00a0which included trying\u00a0to choke Max out during one of the struggles.\u00a0 Officers caught up with Parham and the K9, but Parham continued to resist arrest until officers were able to get handcuffs on him.\u00a0 He was treated at a local hospital for injuries he sustained from the K9 contact.\u00a0 Ofc. Gorman noted that the extent of Parham’s injuries were more severe because Parham fought with Max rather than giving up once he was contacted.<\/p>\n

Police would like to remind people that own vehicles in the high risk category for thefts, typically Toyotas and Hondas in the late 80’s to early 90’s range, would benefit from the added protection of a theft prevention device such as “The Club”.\u00a0 For more information please visit this link:<\/p>\n
