Over the weekend, three user accounts at Gonzaga were compromised by users who fell for phishing scams. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although these scams come every day and we have notified the community a number of times I feel compelled again to remind everyone. Never under any circumstances, should you ever share your password.<\/strong>\u00a0 Gonzaga IT will never ask for your password.<\/strong> If an employee asks for your password, contact the help desk at x5550 immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a result of only these three compromised accounts almost 100,000 SPAM e-mails went out this weekend.\u00a0 Because of this a number of internet e-mail services have contacted us, threatening to block all e-mail from our server, designating it as a spamming server.\u00a0 This means you may not be able to send e-mail to certain people outside the university.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t reiterate enough that you should never, EVER, for any reason at all share your password with ANYONE, either through e-mail, over the phone, or in person, whether you know them or not.\u00a0 Sharing your password with others puts not only yourself at risk (should illegal activity be done using your account) but affects the entire Gonzaga community.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

If you have fallen for a phishing scam, change your password immediately. <\/span><\/p>\n
