A student reported\u00a0today that around 4:05 a.m. today a Caucasian male attempted to force a basement window open and gain entry to an off-campus, non-University-owned\u00a0residence in the E. 900 block of Desmet Ave. The student shouted at the intruder, startling him and causing him to flee northbound. \u00a0The student also reported that the intruder, upon being discovered, stated this was just a prank before he fled.\u00a0 GU Security and Spokane Police were notified. In his rush to flee, the intruder left behind a knife (used to pry the window screen) and bike.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Here are some important steps you can take to help protect your property:<\/p>\n
* Lock your doors and windows. Keep curtains and blinds closed, especially at night.<\/p>\n
* Make sure all of your exterior lights are working.\u00a0 Recommend installation of motion activated exterior lights.<\/p>\n
* Report all crimes immediately to 911.<\/p>\n
* Report suspicious persons and activities immediately to 911.<\/p>\n
If you encounter a subject in your residence, do not attempt to confront them.
