Tomorrow, registration will begin for the 2010 Portland and Seattle Treks.   Many students have been e-mailing for the full list of events for both Portland and Seattle, and here you go!

Four separate excursions to eight different corporate headquarters will allow students to gain an inside perspective of these dynamic companies:

Career Fair: 3:00 PM-5:00 PM

Representatives from over 25 area employers will be on hand to discuss available opportunities and career development tools.  This event will take place at the Broadway of the Doubletree at Lloyd Center.

The Networking Social with Keynote Address: 6:00 PM-8:00 PM

Students, alumni, and area employers are invited to join us for a hosted social at the Doubletree Hotel, Pacific Northwest Ballroom.  Kent Lewis, President of Anvil Media, Inc. will deliver the keynote address.

Getting Ready to Trek…

Here in the Career Center & the  Gonzaga Alumni Mentor Program (GAMP) we are gearing up for the Seattle & Portland Treks coming your way this January.  These events are designed to get your foot in the door with some of the employer leaders in the Pacific Northwest.

Portland Trek will take place January 5th with Seattle on January 7th-8th, 2009.

Among the events planned are excursions to local companies, career fairs exclusively for Gonzaga students and networking socials where students will meet alumni for the purpose of making valuable employment contacts.

Employer partners in Portland include: Portland Trail Blazers, Regence, Nike, Columbia, adidas and Widmer.

Employer partners in Seattle include: Boeing, Nordstrom, Amazon, Accenture, Microsoft, PACCAR and Redhook.

All class years and majors are encouraged to participate, as career development occurs for students across all four years.  Freshmen and sophomores can use the events as a way to learn more about the expectations of employers while juniors and seniors can make contacts for future internships and full time positions.

Registration will begin next week on November 13th.  Space for excursion is limited, so make sure to register as quickly as possible.

Metro is seeking an Associate Public Affairs Specialist in Communications

The Associate Public Affairs Specialist supports communications activities across all Metro departments and independently develops and coordinates assigned policy and planning-related communication activities. The person in this position develops, writes and edits content for the Metro web site, print and electronic publications, and social networking sites; produces newsletters, presentations and event materials; plans and implements stakeholder, community and media engagement; advises project teams about communication issues; provides centralized coordination of several of Metro’s communication tools and work systems; and supports Metro’s intranet and online calendar.

Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree in a communications field and two year of experience in public affairs or communications; or any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the job.
