Recent Grad looking for Employment with a Stable Employer?

Are you tired of hearing of one company after another going bankrupt or having difficulties in this tough economy?  Consider working for one company that has been around for quite some time: the Federal Government.    The benefits are there as well as the demand for young and fresh employees.   Some estimates put that the Federal Government will be retiring nearly 500,000 baby boomers over the course of the next ten years so the need to fill roles now is paramount.

Here is one Federal opportunity design specifically for recent graduates:

Public Service Fellows Program

The Partnership for Public Service is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to revitalize our federal government by inspiring a new generation to serve and by transforming the way government works.

The Public Service Fellows Program is structured to enable each Fellow to significantly contribute to the Partnership’s work while gaining valuable experience.F ellows are assigned to one of the Partnerships teams based on their skill and interest match. During their tenure, fellows are fully integrated within the teams projects and meetings. Fellows may also be asked to lend support on projects for other teams, as needed, and to occasionally assist with administrative duties, such as mailings, greeting visitors, and directing phone calls.

Departments/Areas accepting fellows fo Fall 2009 are as follows:

  • Nonprofit Management/Accounting

QUALIFICATIONS:  Strong commitment to public service issues Desire to learn about issues affecting the federal government. Desire and ability to interact with other organizations including those in the non-profit, academic, private, media, and governmental sectors. Excellent writing and analytical skills. Good presentation skills. Ability to work well in a fast-paced ever-changing environment and to work on multiple assignments in a given time frame. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a tea.  Current student or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program. Proficiency in web-based research and Microsoft Office programs.

Business Development Unpaid Intern, ID #3101 Spokane, WA 8/31

• This internship will give a very broad view of marketing, advertising, community outreach, event planning and management.
• Tasks include: Assisting Business Development team with productivity, occupancy, presentation and operation of the Specialty Leasing Program; coordinating licensee set-up and tear down; working with mall team and general manager to prepare and send out information to prospective retailers; canvassing area to find and develop new retail concepts for our centers; and other tasks as directed.

Editorial Intern, ID #681  Internship Filled

• We don’t pay, but we offer the hectic pace of gathering information and writing for an alternative newsweekly – and references afterwards.
• Compile information, fact-check, do Web research, write occasional short articles.
• We write on local and regional politics and the environment; books, theater, film, visual art, dance, food; classical, jazz, indie, emo, folk, reggae and salsa. Podcasting Internship, ID #675

• Learn the process for creating podcasts, share SPR audio on a worldwide basis.
• Fix audio broadcast for volume and compression rate.
• Add podcasting introduction file to the beginning of audio files.
• Write and edit identification tags for audio, including content description and keywords *
• Create RSS feed (XML file). SPR uses Feeder for Macintosh. Each feed takes between 20 minutes to one hour to process, depending on where you are in the learning curve.

• Assist with maintaining and updating fundraising database.
• Assist with all activities related to special events fund raising, including, but not limited to marketing, promotion, organization and planning of event(s), volunteer oversight, etc.
