The Campus Kitchen at Gonzaga University utilizes leftover food from on-campus dining facilities, in conjunction with food grown from the Ruellen-Day Community Garden, and local restaurant and grocery store donations to provide meals to low-income seniors, after school programs, and homeless shelters in the Spokane community. The Campus Kitchen has a two part mission, in that we work to eliminate waste and hunger, but we also strive to provide leadership development opportunities for young people. The Campus Kitchen at Gonzaga works in partnership with Gonzaga’s Center for Community Action and Service Learning.
This position would help to coordinate the Campus Kitchen Community Dinner and the Pioneer Victory House Dinner, which is served at a transitional living facility for homeless veterans. They would also be responsible for coordinating our gardening efforts in the Ruellen-Day Community Garden which provides fresh organic produce to go into our meals. During the school year the Campus Kitchen provides between 3,000 and 4,000 meals every month to some of Spokane’s most vulnerable citizens. In addition, this person would help recruit local veterans to serve at the project sites.
