GU Mock Trial Pours on the Finesse in Regional Showdown

SEATTLE

Gonzaga University Mock Trial Teams 1076, 1077, and 1078 competed in the University of Washington’s Pacific Northwest Regional Mock Trial Qualifier at the UW School of Law in Seattle, WA. Twenty-four teams of approximately 192 students in all went head-to-head over four intense power-matched back-to-back rounds over the two-day period.

GU Team 1076 faced Oregon State University (2-0), University of Portland (1-1), Stanford University (0-2), and University of Washington (0-2).  GU Team 1077 battled Washington State University (2-0), University of Oregon (1-1), University of Portland (0-1-Tie), and Oregon State University (1-1).  GU Team 1078 dueled Stanford University (1-1), University of Redlands (1-1), University of Oregon (1-1), and Chemeketa (1-1).

With a win record of 7.5, the University of Washington captured the Regional Championship.  GU Team 1077, sporting a record of 4.5 wins, is first in line for an open bid to the Opening Round Championship Series (Silver Nationals).  GU Team 1077 also scored an All American Witness Award for Katie Haas and an All American Attorney Award for Kurt Wohlers.

GU Team 1076 consists of Mai Contino, Emily Klein, Sarah Kohan, Sharon Maher, Sammy Ollmann, and Kailey Silverstein.  GU Team 1077 includes Ian Cobb, Shelby Damron, Katie Haas, Brittney Murray, Siri Wheeler, and Kurt Wohlers.  GU Team 1078 is composed of Larissa Caldeira, Emma Kilroy, Ryan Liam, Micaela Meadows, Joe Parry, Margarett Qaqish, and Elli Williams.

GU Mock Trial is coached by Dr. Georgie Ann Weatherby, GU Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice, Daisy Tran, GU Mock Trial and GU Law Alum with Safeco Insurance (Personal Injury Division), Dan Wu, GU Law Alum in Spokane private practice, and Dr. Vik Gumbhir, GU Associate Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice.

Weatherby says of the teams’ season, “This is where the rubber hits the road.  Everyone works now to prepare GU Team 1077 to thrive at the next level and beyond.”
