Even in Spokane, businesses are looking for students who have Chinese language skills

June 6, 2013 by cheng

Conner, a Gonzaga student, found an intern this summer in Spokane because of his Chinese skills. He told me that this summer he is not going back to his hometown in Seattle but instead he is working in a company in Spokane as an intern. He said that the company hired him because he has learned Chinese for many years. Conner, a business administration major student, is now the communication intermediary between the company and the Chinese manufactarers. It is really exciting to be able to use Chinese in real life and Conner has done a great job so far.
Conner came to Gonzaga with some Chinese he learned in high school. He continued his Chinese studies in the Chinese program at Gonzaga and finished the 200 level and 300 level Chinese courses. He also pursued independent studies, but unfortunately couldn’t do so last semester because of funding. Conner wished Gonzaga could offer a minor to students like him who have put a lot of efforts in Chinese studies.
Whitworth University has gotten ahead of us in this area. Now Whitworth offers Chinese minor to students there.
