An Introduction To The Gonzaga Culture Of Philanthropy

Philanthropy is part of our culture at Gonzaga. After all, it is part of the University’s mission to “foster a mature commitment to the dignity of the human person, social justice, diversity, intercultural competence, global engagement, solidarity with the poor and vulnerable and care for the planet.”

A large part of the Gonzaga experience is made possible by philanthropic gifts. Funding for scholarships, operational funding and so much more comes from a wide variety of Zags, each with a different relationship to the University. Some are alumni whose Gonzaga experience was made possible by scholarships and they want to pass on the torch of opportunity. Some are friends of the University, who recognize the importance and impact an exemplary Jesuit education can have and want to help make it available to more people. Some are parents and family members who want to help other families gain access to all that makes up the Gonzaga experience, regardless of financial means. Whatever the reason or relationship, Zags help other Zags. It’s part of who we are.

As generous as Gonzaga’s community of donors are, there remain many unfunded opportunities for our students. You will be hearing from us throughout the year – in emails, phone calls from our 03162014-Telefund-1018student calling program, and good old-fashioned mailings. We will share the need for scholarship support, as well as educate on how donations help us retain and recruit excellent faculty and enhance athletic and student development programs. Be assured that we will put your donation to use immediately to ensure students’ needs are met both in and out of the classroom.

So, let’s keep in touch – we would love to hear about your Gonzaga experience, too. For more stories and information on fundraising at Gonzaga, follow @GU_Giving on twitter and check in with the Gonzaga Giving blog.

Thank you for entrusting your student to GU!
