I am glad you have found your way back to the IGNITE Blog. GUide Core is diligently working in the office and we wanted to take a minute to speak on a subject that might be on your mind (pun intended). Picking a major can be extremely intimidating, and while some of you might try to play it cool, some of you probably feel a little like this:
You feel like you just decided where to spend the next four years of your life…isn’t that enough decision making for a while?!
At graduation parties and family functions, your relatives incessantly ask you what you plan on studying…and you confidently smile acting like you know EXACTLY what you want to do for the rest of your life.

Maybe you are one of the lucky few who are 100% sure of what your major will be, and that’s wonderful. Own it. In fact, we applaud you.
Others aren’t so sure…
However, we are here to tell you it’s not as scary/intimidating/impossible as you imagine it to be.
It is perfectly normal, in fact expected, to be totally unsure about your major. Have a little freak out, a donut (or two), and realize there are numerous people at GU whose sole purpose is to aid you in your academic and professional success.
Academic Advising and Assistance is one of the offices that can help you with selecting a major. Along with the help of your personal advisor (who you will be assigned to you during Orientation Weekend), they’ll work with you to discern what program is right for you.
The Career Center also has helpful resources that allow you to explore majors that play to your passions and strengths.
Perhaps the best part of this journey is that you are not alone; GUide Core specifically is here for YOU. Us five all spent a good amount of time discerning what majors and minors would be the perfect fit for us individually and our future endeavors.
Every student here at Gonzaga is on the same adventure and your peers will GUide you through as well. [Read other article by GUide Core member Grace Savinovich for evidence].
You never know who might be the spark that will ignite your inspiration in selecting a major. We believe in you, and Queen B does too.
