Gonzaga is proud of its active and vibrant community that offers students opportunities to discover a wide variety of clubs, organizations, and activities to suit their backgrounds and interests.  We encourage freshmen to find opportunities to become engaged in the Gonzaga and Spokane communities.  Students involved in activities outside of the classroom are able to meet friends with common interests, find positive ways to relieve stress, develop leadership skills, and find personal fulfillment.  Following are but a few of the extracurricular opportunities Gonzaga offers students:

  • Clubs and Organizations: Gonzaga has more than 95 active and recognized clubs that cover a wide range of interests from Social Justice to Social Dance.
  • Career Center: It’s never too early for students to begin thinking about their careers.  The Career Center can help them find internships and develop important job skills.
  • Center for Community Action and Service-Learning (CCASL): Each year, Gonzaga students provide more than 100,000 hours of service work to the Spokane community. CCASL organizes a variety of service and leadership opportunities for your student.  Projects range from the April’s Angels volunteer day of service to Mission:Possible, a weeklong service immersion during spring break.
  • Gonzaga Outdoors: GU Outdoors provides organized outdoor trips and inexpensive gear rentals for students who want to experience the beautiful local surroundings.
  • GSBA – Gonzaga Student Body Association: Through programs, sponsorships, events, and other academic and social activities, GSBA strives to meet students’ needs. Gonzaga Activities Board (GAB) offers an array of events, from weekly coffeehouse artists, to guest speakers and lectures, and even big-name concerts.
  • Intramural Sports: The Intramural Sports Program is among the most popular attractions on campus with more than 2,600 students participating annually equaling more than 81 percent of the student population.  The program offers 23 sports and events with a variety of different team and individual activities.
  • RHA – Residence Hall Association: RHA gives your student the opportunity to share ideas and opinions about campus life.
  • Study Abroad: Gonzaga sponsors more than 15 study abroad programs beyond the well-known Gonzaga-in-Florence Program.  We encourage you and your student to discuss and plan for these opportunities.  Most Gonzaga students travel abroad their junior year.
  • University Ministry: The Office of University Ministry at Gonzaga is responsible for the faith development of all students, regardless of religious affiliation and tradition. University Ministry provides opportunities and resources for spiritual growth and fellowship through retreats, service projects, liturgies, music ministry, Christian Life Communities (CLCs), Theology on Tap, spiritual direction, residence hall programs and more. These activities offer students a more mature understanding of Gonzaga’s Jesuit and Catholic identity and a deeper respect for other religious traditions.
  • UMEC – University Multicultural Education Center: Unity Multicultural Education Center is a great place to “hang out” to study and visit.  A place to feel free to discuss matters of educational and social importance. The staff at UMEC plans events, presentations and activities that educate the Gonzaga community about the many diverse cultures on our campus and around the world.

Encourage your student to check out these opportunities to get involved in the Gonzaga community and to take full advantage of all that it offers.
