One of Gonzaga’s priorities in serving our students is teaching students to live their healthiest lives.  A major component of meeting that need is working with students and parents to ensure that our Zags have health insurance.  While insurance is not required to be seen at the Student Health Center or Counseling Center, it does play an important role for students who have medical needs that require services we are unable to provide on campus (e.g. x-rays, specialists, emergency care).

In the State of Washington, Gonzaga students are considered to be Washington residents for the purposes of enrolling in the Washington Health Benefit Exchange.  This means any Gonzaga student could qualify for a free or reduced-cost health insurance plan. The open enrollment period is November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015, so now is the time to look at how your student is covered for their healthcare needs in 2015. The website for the Washington Health Benefit Exchange is http://wahbexchange.org/

For students who are on the Summit Student Health Insurance plan available through Gonzaga, reviewing coverage options now is of the utmost importance.  That insurance plan will no longer be offered as of August 2015.  Students who are on this plan will receive direct communication from the University in the upcoming weeks to remind them they should start looking now for alternative coverage.

We also have a specialist at the Washington Health Benefit Exchange who works with Gonzaga students to evaluate their health insurance needs and advise them in selecting a plan and enrolling for coverage.  His contact information is:  Curtis Fackler, 509-321-7503 or curt@betterhealthtogether.org.

If you have any general questions, please don’t hesitate to call Libby Skiles, Health Center Director, at 509-313-4067 or e-mail at skiles@gonzaga.edu.
