By: Jill Yashinsky-Wortman, Director of the Center for Cura Personalis

For many of our students, coming to Gonzaga may be their first experience with Jesuit education. For other students, this is old hat! The Jesuit educational tradition is rich, longstanding, and steeped in words and phrases that hold a special meaning for why we do what we do. One of those phrases is “cura personalis,” which means “care for the whole person.” At Gonzaga, we have an entire staff of people in The Center for Cura Personalis (CCP) who are dedicated to empowering and supporting students in being their best selves. Oftentimes CCP is a great starting place for students who aren’t sure where to start! Read on to learn more about the specific services and offerings within CCP, or visit our website at www.gonzaga.edu/CCP.

Case Management:

Case Management strives to connect students to the people and services that can help them be their best selves in and out of the classroom. Case Managers provide non-clinical one-on-one support to students by helping students navigate struggles, connecting them to on and off campus resources, providing follow-up, and guiding students in gaining skills for self-advocacy. Case management also administers the Students of Concern process which encourages communication about any student who may be struggling. Learn more at gonzaga.edu/studentofconcern.

Wellness and Prevention Education:

Wellness and Prevention Education aims to provide students with information, resources, and support in staying healthy and engaged in all aspects of university life. Along with Peer Educators, our staff provides numerous ways to support students in making decisions about healthy behaviors around alcohol, violence prevention, relationships, mental well-being and more!

Our Unique Recovery (OUR) House Collegiate Recovery Community:

The mission of OUR House as part of Gonzaga’s Collegiate Recovery Community is to create a supportive environment to promote healing and on-going sobriety for students in recovery or at risk for substance use disorders. This mission is supported by programmatic efforts for recovery, alternatives to alcohol and drug use, strategies and resources for maintaining sobriety, and a community of belonging promoting recovery and wellness. Recovery support services include peer connections, dedicated safe space, counseling services, recovery and sober based activities, and referral assistance. Sexual Assault Response Team (SART):

This team is composed of faculty and staff who volunteer to support students immediately following an incident of sexual misconduct. SART members go to the hospital with students, help file security and/or police reports, and get students connected to on and off campus support services including counseling and advocacy groups. SART is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can be reached by calling 509-313-2222 and asking for a SART responder.

To talk more about any of our services, feel free to call us at 509-313-2CCP (2227) or e-mail us at CCP@gonzaga.edu.
