Our Blog

By: Elizabeth Higgins, Gonzaga Event Service Team (GUEST)

Hello new and returning Zag families! Welcome to the John J. Hemmingson Center, where GU’s history comes to life and you can explore what the future holds for Gonzaga. We invite you to help us make history as we open our doors to students, families and the community for the very first time this fall!

Welcome Wall
As you walk in the main entrance of the building you are greeted by the Welcome Wall, a huge 12ft wide touch screen that displays 6,000 photos taken throughout the lifetime of Gonzaga. Click on topics such as Zaglife, Faith, Athletics, Alumni and Academics to be guided through a visual and interactive journey through the past and present. A smaller second wall is located at the northeast entrance and will mirror whatever is displayed on the main Welcome Wall.

ZagWall
Help write GU history… literally! The ZagWall was designed after the original ZagWall in Bulldog Alley and gives everyone the opportunity to add their own personal message to this interactive wall. Everything written on the wall will be archived so that it can be shared with visitors in the future. What will you share?

Next Gen Tech Bar
Technology is not just for scientists and engineers – the modern student needs to be tech savvy and understand both the possibilities and limitations of technology. Our goal is to give students and the GU community access and exposure to leading edge technology such as virtual technology, 3D printing, and the latest tech gadgets from companies such as Microsoft.

The Hemmingson Center is now the home to several departments, clubs and organizations that were once located all around campus. The close proximity of these groups will foster a greater sense of collaboration and community for our students, staff and faculty as well as the greater Spokane community.
