Starting in 2013, a pilot project by the name of STAR (strategies, tools, and resources) was facilitated out of Gonzaga’s Disability Access Office. This program was available to all students on campus in need of strategies to enhance academic performance. STAR has been renamed Learning Strategies, and is now an independent office outside of the Disability Access Office. Learning Strategies staff encourage self-determination, self-advocacy and accountability in students and educate them on organization, planning, time management, goal setting, learning styles and more.  Our program promotes a collaborative environment between students and staff; staff will not prescribe action plans, but will instead work with students via workshops or individual sessions to discover tools to help students create their success.

To engage in services, students may complete an inquiry form on the Learning Strategies webpage: www.gonzaga.edu/learningstrategies.   Students are contacted within seven business days of submission of their inquiry form. The information provided on an inquiry form will determine a student’s initial course of action with the program. Students may also attend Learning Strategies workshops without completing an inquiry form; however, students must pre-register for workshops. Information regarding workshops are listed on the Learning Strategies webpage.

If students are not yet ready to attend a workshop or meet with a Learning Strategist, but are looking for learning and study strategy ideas, we highly recommend students visit the Learning Studio section of our webpage for resources and tools.

Parents are welcome to contact the program for general information; however, students must initiate contact to be considered for individual strategy services.
