According to psychologist Carol Dweck, “Important achievements require a clear focus, all-out effort, and a bottomless trunk full of strategies. Plus allies in learning.” These words from her book, The Growth Mindset, couldn’t be truer when we think about academic success at the college level, and we are here in the Learning Strategies Management Office to be those “allies in learning” for your student.  Our office works with students to enhance and support their academic performance through a number of different, tailored programs. At any time in the semester, your student could:

Access Free Tutoring and Mentoring in our Learning Studio: Located on the first floor of the Foley Library, the Learning Studio is a multidisciplinary space where students, faculty, and peer tutors and mentors come together to collaborate on student learning. Whether a student is struggling in a very difficult subject, or just wants an academic edge, the Learning Studio is the place to come. Many faculty hold open office hours here during the day, and we offer free one-on-one tutoring with peer tutors in a variety of courses and subjects in the evenings. We call our peer tutors Learning Assistants, and each one is faculty recommended and trained in Learning Theory. Not only do they infuse all tutoring sessions with this theoretical backbone, but our Learning Assistants also serve as general academic mentors for any student wanting to improve their time management, sit down and strategize a plan for completing a long, multi-step assignment, or discuss study skills strategies.

Students can make appointments with Learning Assistants  online at www.mywco.com/learningstudio or drop in during our open hours, Sunday through Thursday 3pm-8pm.

The Digital Learning Studio: Our online page is teeming with resources for your student to access any time, day or night, to help them plan for success.  Here you’ll find different tools for time management, study strategies, critical reading, and many other resources for learning.

Learning Strategies Workshops: Throughout the semester, we offer a series of workshops where students can learn in a dynamic group environment. Our topics include “Get Organized,” “SMART Goal Setting,” and “Creating Midterm Study Plans,” among others.

One-on-One Sessions with a Learning Strategist:  Oftentimes it is best for students to take a few minutes to sit down with a strategic learning specialist to create individualized learning plans.  Our professionals are here to help your students learn how they learn best and to help them access all the resources on campus to fully support their academics.

The Academic Testing Center: Our testing center, located on the second floor of Foley Library, offers students and faculty a safe and secure, proctored environment in which students can test outside of the classroom hours and environment.

Whether students need intense one-on-one tutoring, a brush up on time management skills, or an appointment with a strategic learning strategist to create a semester-long learning plan, we are here to help enhance learning in all kinds of ways.
