On April 19, after an anticipated wait, the new student lounge was revealed in the lower level of the Hemmingson Center. The “Hemm Den” is the latest addition to the student center, giving the students a new space to study, meet up with friends, or even take a nap between classes. The Hemm Den consists of furniture and decor picked by the students, for the students, including a variety of chairs, tables, booths, couches, white board walls, a stage and more.

The space was designed in light of the previous student space in Crosby which was a beloved gathering spot for students. The Hemm Den’s goal is to capture that same feel for those who miss Crosby and those who did not get the chance to experience it. It’s the perfect place to gather for group projects, enjoy Coffeehouse on Wednesday nights, or just relax. President McCulloh spoke to the importance of opening the Hemm Den before seniors graduated, giving them the space to study for finals and relax during their last couple of weeks.
The space was originally walled off after initial building construction and set aside until the Gonzaga Community decided what it was meant to be. The design and implementation of the Hemm Den was a collaborative effort between staff, GSBA President and students to provide a space that would benefit the entirety of the student body and enrich the community experience in the Hemmingson Center.
