Scenario: Ground Rules Disagreement
Student disagrees with ground rules set up at the beginning of the class or breaks them during class.
This is a scenario that happened in the classroom of a member of the Productive Discomfort cohort. The group discussed possible responses, including:
- Engage as much as possible during class. Discuss what the student needs to be able to agree with the classroom community agreement.
- If student remains defiant, ask the student to remain after class for a short conversation. Be sure to tell the rest of the class how the situation was resolved next time.
- Ask students at midterm to say what they believe they have brought to the class so far that is special and unique. What will they bring to the second half of the semester?
