This unique program blends a traditional study abroad program with social justice and service to the community.Learn more about this exciting study abroad opportunity on Thursday, January 18th from 12:00-1:00 in the Road to Utopia room in Crosby.
Casa de la Solidaridad is an academic initiative between the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU), the University of Central America (UCA) in El Salvador, and Santa Clara University.
The mission of the Casa is the promotion of justice and solidarity through the creation of a meaningful academic experience where you can integrate rigorous academic study with direct immersion with the poor of El Salvador.Dedicated to fostering “men and women for others,” Casa de la Solidaridad is a unique community based learning program. Here you can develop your intellectual potential, strengthen your ethical and religious values, and learn to become a socially responsible global citizen.
The program draws inspiration from the lives of the six Jesuits, their housekeeper and her daughter who were murdered at the University of Central America (UCA) on November 16, 1989 and from all the people of El Salvador who suffered during the civil war, especially those who were killed in their struggle for solidarity and social justice.
Because of its dramatic recent history, its current stability, and its rich human resources, Salvadoran society is an ideal place for you to experience issues that confront residents of developing countries, the vast majority of the world’s citizens today.
Please stop by Study Abroad today to apply to this amazing program! Applications are due the beginning of February. Contact Donna Ryan at 313-3598 or ryan@gu.gonzaga.edu for more information.
