Recently, a number of Music Majors and students participating in music programs have been received accolades for their hard work.
Jimmy McGinley, a junior music major concentrating in composition, was recently selected as the winner of the Opus 7 Choral Award in the undergraduate category for his composition Snow. Inspired by the C.K. Williams poem of the same name, Snow is a choral performance featuring chord clusters and held suspensions for SSAATTBB and piano. It will be performed by Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble, a professional choral ensemble out of Seattle, at their 25th Anniversary Celebration Concert on Saturday, May 13th at 8pm at the University Congregational United Church of Christ in Seattle.
Eight Gonzaga students from the choral program have been selected by competitive audition to perform solos in Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Serenade to Music with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra on May 6 (8pm) and May 7 (3pm). The students are sopranos Madeline Dellinger, Makenna Sellers and Teresa Halsey; altos Amanda Rood and Katie Kenkel; tenor Nicholas Ferguson Fritschler and basses David Barnes and Andrew Kelley. Of these students, Teresa, Amanda and Andrew are music majors with performance concentrations and Katie is a music education major. Amanda and Teresa are seniors.
The College of Arts & Sciences congratulates these students on their achievements and wishes them the best of luck at their upcoming performances
