The College of Arts & Sciences congratulates undergraduate theatre major Art Por Diaz, who was awarded The Artists Striving To End Poverty (ASTEP) Scholarship at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival April 16-22, 2017 in Washington, D.C. The scholarship is in recognition of the senior’s achievement in playwriting for his ten-minute play A La Roro.
The ASTEP scholarship will allow Art to travel to New York City this June to participate in the Artist as Citizen Conference, whose mission is to celebrate, connect, and develop young leaders in the arts by providing them with a transformative artistic and educational experience in the heart of New York City.
Artists Striving To End Poverty is a New York-based non-profit organization connecting performing and visual artists with underserved youth in the U.S. and around the world to awaken their imaginations, foster critical thinking, and help them break the cycle of poverty.
