Renee has a background in genetics, cell, and molecular biology. She loves solving puzzles of the consequences of mutations and genetic variation, curating and communicating the connections between genotype and phenotype, and integrating research experiences into undergraduate classes.
Renee is an alum of the Dunham Lab (University of Washington), Toker Lab (Harvard / BIDMC), and Schmitt Lab (George Fox University). She is a member of the ClinGen G6PD VCEP.

Lab Members

Sophie Harrison
Sophie is a Biology major with Chemistry and Health Equity minors. When she is not in lab, you can find her doing every sort of activity imaginable outside (hiking, running, camping, generally enjoying the sunshine), always with her friends.

Amy Howlett
Amy is a Biology major and History minor who is really excited about genetics! When not in lab, you can find her playing the violin, in a game of cribbage, walking outside, or reading a book.

Katie Manson
Katie a Biology major who loves to draw every moment she gets. Outside of science, she loves to practice ballet and read a good fantasy book in her spare time.

Skylar Markley
Skylar is a Neuroscience major with a Music and Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership minor. Outside of science, she loves being active, singing, and finding her next adventure!

Sophia Ohlson-Kiehn
Sophia is a Biology and Sociology dual major with Health Equity and Spanish minors who loves to read. She also enjoys hiking, playing rugby, and going to the gym.

Kelsey Sakraida
Kelsey is a Neuroscience major with a minor in Data Science, co-mentored by Dr. Laura Diaz-Martinez. She enjoys watching and playing sports and playing board games and card games with friends.

Norah Thornton
Norah is a Biology major with a Spanish minor. She is interested in medical sciences and has special interests in cell biology. Outside of school Norah enjoys going to the gym, spending time with her three dogs, and traveling with friends and family.

Kaiya Veasey
Kaiya is a Biology major with a Critical Race & Ethnic Studies minor who is passionate about an impact in her communities. When she’s not in the lab, she enjoys getting outside (hiking, rock climbing, camping), watching and playing sports, and is probably watching a reality TV show.
