A major fundraising intiative was started based around the average salary of professors and this initiative was called the Great Teachers Program. Beginning in 1955, the Great Teachers Program fund was created to help with the cost of supporting more faculty at Gonzaga that were not Jesuit, and $5,000 was a suggested investment to cover the entire salary for one faculty member. The goal was to raise $100,000 per year to meet budget commitments and make proper adjustments to faculty salaries.
