From the moment she first set foot on campus, Katie Dougherty (’15) instantly knew she wanted to be a part of the Gonzaga Community. Coming from a big Irish Catholic family in Iowa, she wanted to continue her Catholic education at a university that worked for her and her family financially. She found her home here at Gonzaga even though it is hundreds of miles away from her hometown.
Dougherty developed a passion for people and politics, which is exactly the reason she double majored in political science and psychology. Her love for people drove her to be involved in several activities at Gonzaga, including serving as an Ambassador and Senior Class President. She loved making connections and applying the things she learned in the classroom to real-life experiences.
One of the biggest reasons Dougherty chose Gonzaga was the sense of community she felt upon her first visit. Katie would have not been able to attend what she called her “dream school” had it not been for the scholarships she received. Through the generosity of Gonzaga donors she has had the ability to learn inside and outside the classroom and follow her heart.
