Gonzaga was always at the top of the list for Derek Graham (’16). He was looking for a small school atmosphere, limited class sizes and a successful sports team with a community he could call himself a part of. Gonzaga offered exactly that and more.
Graham was surprised at how willing Gonzaga’s professors were to help students and how much they cared about the progress of each student, something he didn’t think he could find at a bigger school. It was that sort of individualized attention that helped build his passion for environmental studies.
Whether caring for them, observing them, or helping a species continue to thrive, Graham has always wanted to work with animals. Gonzaga helped drive him to discover a career path in fish and wildlife. After graduation, he hopes to continue his education in environmental studies and pursue a Master’s in Wildlife Management, eventually working for a state’s Fish and Wildlife Department.
Without his scholarship, Graham would not have been able to attend Gonzaga and pursue his passion.
“Gonzaga has had an astounding impact on my life and I am truly blessed to go here,” said Graham. “I will continue to work hard knowing that someone donated their hard-earned money in order for me to attend Gonzaga University.”
