Making the decision to attend Gonzaga was one of the toughest choices Ashley Carandang (’17) ever faced. She was torn between attending college in her hometown alongside her older and twin sisters and going away to Gonzaga – a university that she considered to have an incredible nursing program. She had been inspired to become a nurse came to her after her father became very ill. She wanted to help people like her dad and she knew she could get the best education to do exactly that at Gonzaga.
“I admired the nurses helping my dad because they never failed to give him compassion even on his worst days,” said Carandang. “Through all the visits I made, several of the nurses I knew personally influenced me greatly with regard to why I wanted to make a career for myself in health care.” After she graduates from Gonzaga she hopes to become a traveling nurse, or, since she came from a military family, join the United States Air Force Nurse Corps.
Thanks to the scholarship Carandang received, she was able to choose the university with the excellent nursing program and become a member of the Gonzaga community.
“I would sincerely like to thank the scholarship donors for being so kind and generous,” said Carandang. “This is a huge blessing to my family and me. I am very thankful for having the opportunity to go to college and pursue my dreams. My scholarship has allowed me to continue my education and helps my family greatly.”
