Haley Charlton (’16) liked the idea of “whole person” education and she found it in Gonzaga’s core curriculum. Before coming to GU, she wanted to find a school that would help her to grow in all aspects of her life, not just educationally. Ultimately, she chose Gonzaga because of the University’s focus on faith, community and service to others. She saw attending Gonzaga as a way to help her grow into the kind of person she hopes to someday be and reach her full potential.
Charlton began her journey at Gonzaga as a nursing major, based on her desire to help others; however, she became inspired to pursue her true passion: music.
“I believe that I will change more lives as a music educator than I would doing anything else,” she said. After graduation, she would like to enter into a master’s program at GU for a degree in education. She hopes to link her career to service and encourage the love of music in others.
Without her scholarship, Charlton says she would not be able to attend Gonzaga to pursue this passion.
“I am extraordinarily thankful for this gift,” she said. “The things I have learned here, the people I have met and my experiences have transformed me into the person I am today.”
