August 24

Three male students were assaulted at about 1:40 AM in the 900 block of East Mission. The students reported that four males believed to be non-students assaulted them in the Safeway parking lot, punching and kicking them.  The students were able to get away and call Spokane Police and Campus Security.   The non-students are described to be a white male and 3 African-American males in a white 1990s sedan. The students were treated for injuries at a local hospital and released.

August 22

A GU Student reported that her friend’s vehicle was broken into while parked in the 400 block of East Mission between 4 AM and 4 PM on August 22. A laptop and camera were taken. There was no sign of forced entry. The Spokane Police Department was contacted.

An off-campus residential burglary was reported to GU Security. GU students reported that someone entered their residence in the 400 block of East Augusta while they were away between 9:30 PM and 11:30 PM on August 21. There was no sign of forced entry. Laptops, Ipods, checkbooks, and cash were taken.

August 20

An off-campus residential burglary was reported to GU Security. The burglary occurred in the 1000 block of East Sinto sometime between 1:30 AM and 9:10 AM on August 20, while residents of the house were sleeping.  Several electronic items were taken, including items from one of the rooms where a resident was sleeping. There was no sign of forced entry. The Spokane Police Department was contacted.

• If you have to walk, do so in groups especially after dark. Try to use well-lit, busy routes. Be aware of your surroundings.
• Utilize Saferide if you need a ride back to your residence from an off-campus location: call 568-8000.
• Utilize Security escorts to travel across campus: 313-2222.
• Report suspicious persons or circumstances immediately to GU Security (313-2222) or SPD (911).
• Once you are in safe place, report all crimes immediately to police at 911 and GU Security at 313-2222.

An off-campus residential burglary was reported to GU Security this morning. 

The burglary occurred in the 1000 block of East Sinto sometime between 1:30 AM and 9:10 AM this morning, while residents of the house were sleeping.  Several electronic items were taken, including items from one of the rooms where a resident was sleeping. There was no sign of forced entry. 

Here are some easy steps you can take to help protect your property: 

*         Lock your doors and windows. Keep curtains & blinds closed.

*         Make sure all of your exterior lights are working.

*         Report all crimes immediately. 911.

*         Report suspicious persons and activities immediately. 911. 

If you encounter a subject in your residence, do not attempt to confront them. Go to a safe place and call 911.

GU Security took a report of graffiti that was found on the ROTC trailer in the College Hall Parking lot.  An orange peace symbol had been spray painted on it.

GU Security responded to the Foley library in reference to a GU student’s computer being stolen out of the study lounge.  The student called after he saw a white male leave the lounge with his computer after the student left it unattended for approximately 3 minutes.

GU Security responded to the 200 block of E Sinto in reference to the report of a stolen bike.  A GU student cable-locked her bike to her patio on 080910 at 10:00 PM and found the bike and lock missing on 081010 at 9:00 AM.

GU Security and the Spokane Police Department responded to the 200 block of E Sinto in reference to a GU student finding the door to her residence wide open.  The student stated that the door had been secured when she left on 081010 at 9:15 AM and found it standing open later at 12:15 PM.  Nobody was found inside and nothing appeared to be missing.

A GU student reported finding her own stolen 1997 Subaru Outback in an alley near her residence in the 900 block of E Sinto.  The vehicle had been stolen from her residence between 080610 at 3:30 PM and 080710 at 7:15 AM.

GU Security and the Spokane Police Department responded to a GU student’s residence in the 1300 block of N Superior in reference to a suspicious person.  The student saw a man in her yard and when she called out to him and asked who he was, he started walking toward her window.  The unknown male left prior to Security and Law Enforcement showing up.

GU Security and the Spokane Police Department responded to the area of the Centennial Trail and the Kardon Bridge in reference to a recovered stolen John Deere Gator from the Patterson Field storage area.  It is unknown when the Gator was taken.

GU Security responded to the Foley library in reference to an attempted bike theft that had occurred at the bike rack in front of the building.  The bike’s owner saw a white male with a full face motorcycle helmet on attempting to cut the cable lock off of the bike.  The owner chased the man toward the south side of the building but lost him.

GU Security responded to the Law School parking lot in reference to a baseball that had hit the windshield of a 2006 Mitsubishi.

GU Security received a report of malicious mischief from a Law School student.  The student stated that sometime between 9:00 AM and 1:50 PM, unknown person(s) “keyed” the shape of a “V” on the hood of his 2003 Honda.  This is the second time his car has been vandalised.

Two off-campus residential burglaries and an attempted burglary were reported to GU Security in the past few days.

One burglary occurred in the 300 block of East Nora sometime between midnight and 1:30 AM on July 31st. In this case a laptop and purse were taken. Entry was believed to have been made through an unlocked window while residents and their guests were upstairs.

The other occurred in the 1000 block of East Sinto sometime between midnight and 1:00 AM on July 30^th, while a resident was of the house was sleeping.  A Mac Book and Ipod were taken. There was no sign of forced entry.

The attempted burglary occurred at a GU-owned rental house in the 1000 block of East Boone sometime between 9:00 PM on July 30th and 1:00 AM on July 31^st. In this case it appears that someone attempted to kick in the door of the unoccupied residence causing damage to the frame, but failing to gain entry.

GU Security responded to the area of the 200 block of E Sharp in reference to suspicious people.  A white male and white female were seen trying to open the doors at a GU owned apartment building.  They left in an older red 4-door Jeep.

GU Security responded to the 400 block of E Augusta in reference to a suspicious person/vehicle.  A white male was seen on the property and got into a newer red 4-door sedan that was parked in the alley.

GU Security and the Spokane Police Department responded to the 1000 block of E Boone in reference to an attempted burglary of an GU student’s residence.  The student stated that damage to his door and door frame happened between 073010 at 9:00 PM and when he returned on 073110 at 1:00 AM.  A large muddy footprint was seen on the front of the door.

GU Security received a call from a concerned parent that their daughter was not answering her phone.  Security responded to the daughter’s GU resident hall room and ascertained that she had been sleeping and did not hear the phone ring.

A GU Staff member reported to GU Security that unknown person(s) entered his 1992 Toyota Corolla through the driver’s side door window and took some sunglasses, vehicle paperwork, Blue tooth headset and his garage door opener.  The vehicle was parked in the Martin Centre parking lot.  The incident happened on 070810 between 8:00 AM and 3:50 PM.

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to the 500 block of East Sharp in reference to a fire alarm.  A GU student was boiling water when it over flowed onto the  burner setting off the fire alarm.

A GU student reported to GU Security that someone had thrown a vodka bottle through the back window of her vehicle while it was parked in the 400 block of East Augusta on 070810 11:30 PM.  The person was intoxicated and ran from the area but the student was able to ascertain the person’s name from witnesses.

GU Security completed a report from a GU student reference her bike being stolen.  Sometime between 042810 at 7:00 and 050310 at 4:00 PM her bike was stolen from the Coughlin bike rack.  The bike had been secured with a U-Lock.

A GU staff member reported to GU Security that sometime between 050410 at 8:00 PM and 050510 at 8:25 AM, her vehicle was stolen in the area of the 200 block of East Sinto.  The vehicle was a 1994 Honda Accord and was reported to have been locked.

A GU student who was moving out of the River Inn reported that someone had taken his laptop out of his room that he left unlocked for 30 minutes while loading his belongings into his vehicle.

GU Security took a report of an attempted burglary in the area of 709 E Sinto.  It was later found out to be a roommate who forgot their key and tried to attempt entry through a window.

A GU student reported to GU Security that on 050610 at approximately 3:00 AM, an unknown person tried to gain entry into her house in the 500 block of East Sinto while she was in her room.  The person fled when she and a friend yelled out to them.

A GU student reported the theft of his bike from the Kennedy bike rack.  It had been secured with a cable lock.  The bike had been taken sometime between 050610 at 9:00 PM and 0550710 at 1:00 PM.

A GU student reported the theft of his bike from the bike rack outside the front door of the Tilford building.  The bike had been secured with a U-Lock and taken sometime between 040720 at 3:00 PM and 041410 at 3:00 PM.

A GU student reported the theft of his bike from the main entrance to the law school.  The student leaned the bike up against the glass doors and went inside for approximately 3 minutes.  He found it missing when he came outside.  The bike had not been secured.

GU Security took a report from a GU student in reference to a stolen bike from the Madonna bike rack.  The bike was stolen sometime between 3:00 PM on 052410 and 3:30 on 052710.  The only part of the bike that was left was the front fork section and the U-lock that was attached to it.

A GU student responded to the GU Security office to report his bike stolen from the Twohy bike rack.  The bike was secured with a cable lock on 042010 at 5:00 PM and discovered missing on 042410 at 2:00 AM.

GU Security, the Spokane Fire Department and the Spokane Police Department responded to the 300 block of East Sharp in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.  Both the driver and the pedestrian are GU students.    Minor injuries were reported.

GU Security took a report of a vehicle prowl from a GU student.  Sometime between 042610 at 5:00 PM and 042710 at 8:00 PM, unknown person(s) took miscellaneous clothing, purses and an IPod car connector out of her Isuzu Rodeo.  Entry was made through a previously broken window.

GU Security and the Spokane Police Department responded to the area of DeSmet Circle in reference to a female non-student who was angry and using threatening body language toward officers.  The female was looking for anger management classes.  She was given a trespass warning.

GU Security took a report of theft of supplies from a GU owned building.  The theft occurred between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

GU Security responded to the area of Madonna resident hall in reference to a vehicle prowl.  Sometime between 042910 at 5:00 PM and 043010 at 8:00 PM unknown person(s) took a GPS system out of a 1995 Honda Accord.  The vehicle had been locked and no damage noted at the time of the discovery of the theft.

GU Security assisted the Spokane Police Department with an uncooperative GU student in the area of Lidgerwood and Sinto.

GU Security responded to the area of 1300 N Astor in reference to a welfare check of 3 GU students.

GU Security responded to the area of Patterson Field in reference to a vehicle prowl.  A GU student parked their 2003 Toyota Highlander in the parking lot at 1:00 PM and discovered it broken into at 6:15 PM.  A laptop was taken.  The owner heard the vehicle’s alarm go off around 5:15 PM.

GU Security responded to a GU owned building in reference to an internal office window being broken by unknown person(s) and by unknown means.

May 2^nd

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to the 200 block of E Sinto in reference to a fire alarm.  Burnt bacon was the source of the alarm.

May 3^rd

GU Security responded to the area of 209 E Sinto in reference to a vehicle prowl.  Nothing was taken but the driver’s side window had been broken out sometime between 050210 at 10:30 PM and 050310 at 5:30 AM.

Gonzaga Security was notified of an attempted burglary to a residence in the 500 block of East Sinto. A Gonzaga student and her boyfriend observed a subject open and reach into an egress window in a basement room of the residence. The person fled when they yelled at them.

The end of the semester is always a time of opportunity for thieves. Students are reminded to properly secure doors and windows, close drapes/blinds for privacy, and insure that you have proper lighting near entries. Remember not to leave valuables unsecured while you are moving out. Please report suspicious persons or circumstances IMMEDIATELY to the Spokane Police Department at 911 and Campus Security at 313-2222.

A 1994 Honda Accord was stolen from the north parking lot of the Sinto Apartments on 050510 at 7:00 AM.  Unknown person(s) drove into the parking lot in a silver 4 door possibly an older Toyota Camry or Nissan Maxima, backed into a parking space next to the Honda, a person got into the Honda and both vehicles left the parking lot.  Please contact SPD or Gonzaga Security at 313-2222 if you have any information about this theft.
