An unlocked vehicle parked in the Schoenberg parking lot overnight was entered and a stereo was damaged during an attempt to remove it.

Suspicious persons reported in area of previous off-campus assaults

March 8, 2012

On Thursday March 8, 2012 at 2:00 AM, a student reported he was walking alone in the area of Nora and Cincinnati when he observed two white males walking east on Nora.  As he crossed Cincinnati the two men made comments and gestures towards the student and watched him for a few moments.  One subject was described as 25-35 years of age, 6’2” – 6’5”, 220 – 230 lbs, bald, clean-shaven wearing dark clothing and a black hoodie.  The other subject was described as 25 – 35 years of age, 5’10” – 5’11”, 160 – 170 lbs, with dark hair, scraggly beard wearing dark clothing and a black hoodie. The student returned safely to a friends house nearby. Because of recent incidents in the area, the student was encouraged to file a report with the Spokane Police Department.

Gonzaga community members are reminded of the following safety tips:

If you have to walk, do so in groups especially after dark. Try to use well-lit, busy routes.

Utilize Security escorts to travel across campus: 313-2222.

Be aware of your surroundings.

Report suspicious persons or circumstances immediately to GU Security (313-2222) or SPD (911).

DO NOT confront persons who act or appear may become threatening.


Suspicious person reported near Dussault Apartments this morning

March 8, 2012

On Thursday March 8, 2012 at 10:35 AM, a student reported to campus security that at around 7:48 AM in the area of Dussault Apartments next to Plant Services, a male subject began to approach her while she was retrieving an item from her car, but veered off before making contact. She stated the male continued hastily walking towards Sharp Ave. The subject is described as a white male, 18 – 25 years of age, 5’7”, thin build, wearing  a black scarf covering the lower half of his face, dark clothing wearing a dark green backpack.  Although no crime was committed a suspicious person report has been filed with Spokane Police.

Gonzaga community members are reminded of the following safety tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Report suspicious persons or circumstances immediately to GU Security (313-2222) or SPD (911).
  • Always lock exterior doors to your residence, even in a residence hall.

Car theft reported in 700 block of East Mission

A student reported her black 1997 Honda Accord taken from a parking lot near her off-campus apartment complex during the early evening of February 28.

A student reported his vehicle was broken into while parked in the 500 block of East Mission. Nothing appeared to be missing.

A student reported her vehicle was broken into and a GPS and Ipod taken while parked in the 400 block of East Ermina.

A student reported her vehicle was broken into while parked in the 500 block of East Sinto. Nothing appeared to be missing.

A student reported a GPS unit missing from his unlocked vehicle parked in the 1300 block of North Dakota.

A student reported his trumpet missing from an unsecured locker at the Music Annex.

A student reported $500 cash missing from his wallet at his residence in the 300 block of East Boone. The student reported the wallet was on a table in his bedroom near an open window.

A student reported her vehicle was broken into and her purse taken while parked overnight in the Kennedy parking garage.

SPD & Gonzaga Security investigating assault report

February 20, 2012

 At 5:00 AM this morning, Campus Security was advised of a student who had entered another student’s room at Marian Hall and reported that he had been assaulted. The student reported he was somewhere between the 1300 block of North Hamilton and the intersection of Columbus & Boone sometime between 1:00 AM-5:00 AM when 3 dark-skinned males punched him twice. The student reported he fell asleep somewhere “in the street” after being struck and when he woke up his wallet and phone were missing. The student had minor injuries consistent with being in a fight. The student was unable to provide more accurate details of the event or where he had been during the evening. Spokane Police and Gonzaga Security are investigating.

Student reports late night assault near Sharp and Cincinnati

February 11, 2012

A student reported to Gonzaga Security today that at about 11:30 pm on Friday night, February 10, he was assaulted by two males who yelled at him and chased him to the area of Sharp and Cincinnati.  As the student attempted to defend himself he was knocked to the ground at which point the two males fled the area.  The two males were described as white, around 6 feet tall, one with a medium build and the other with a larger build, and in their thirties.  The student was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a cut lip and cuts to his hands.  Spokane Police and Campus Security were not notified at the time of the incident.  The student was encouraged to file a police report today.

Persons of Interest – Coughlin Hall vehicle prowl

These two subjects are persons of interest in a theft of a stereo and Ipod from a student’s vehicle last night in the Coughlin garage at about 11:30 PM. We believe the subject in the first photo may be the same person of interest in the backpack theft at Coughlin last week. A police report has been filed. Call Campus Security at 2222 if you see them on or near campus.


Early morning assault near Augusta & Cincinnati reported

February 4, 2012

A student reported to Gonzaga Security that he was walking north of the Gonzaga campus with two other male students near Cincinnati and Augusta at about 12:30 AM this morning when two white males in their late 20’s or early 30’s, who they believed to be non-students, engaged in an argument with them and began punching them. One of the students reported being hit in the head with a fence board and had a swollen eye and cuts. The other two students were not injured.

The student was encouraged to file a police report. A similar early morning assault was reported to have occurred near this area on January 22 (see previous post).

Sodexho reported one of their vans missing from a parking space in the alley near Cataldo. A stolen vehicle report has been filed with Spokane Police.


Student reports off-campus assault last weekend

January 27, 2012

A student reported today that at about 1:30 AM on January 22, 2010 he and a friend left his off-campus residence in the 900 block of East Sinto enroute to Chapala Restaurant, a few blocks north at Hamilton and Illinois. The student reported that on Hamilton just north of Indiana, three subjects walking east of Hamilton yelled something at them. The student reported that comments were exchanged, and the subjects, described as 3 white males about 22 years of age and possibly Gonzaga students, approached them and one of them struck the student in the forehead. The student advised he wrestled this subject to the ground and punched him, resulting in a broken hand. The two groups then separated. No other injuries were reported. The student was encouraged to file a police report.

A student reported her Iphone missing from where she had left it unattended in Foley Library.

January 24

A wheel separated from a student’s vehicle on campus. All of the lug nuts were missing, and it is suspected that a suspicious person observed earlier may have attempted to steal the wheel while the vehicle was parked at the student’s residence in the 900 block of East Sinto.

January 17

A student reported her 1986 Honda Civic missing from the Boone/Hamilton parking lot. The vehicle was recovered on January 18 in the Spokane Valley fully intact and with a half tank of gas. The student reported that the vehicle had been stolen and recovered a few years earlier when her sister attended Gonzaga. She was advised to invest in a steering wheel lock.


Residential burglary reported in 800 block of East Sinto

January 17, 2012

Students reported that they arrived home early this morning to find their house in the 800 block of East Sinto had been burglarized and several items including laptops missing. The burglar(s) gained access to the residence by breaking a basement window.


Gonzaga theft suspect wanted by SPD

January 11, 2012

UPDATED January 13 – Blair has been arrested thanks to a citizen tip.

Sean Blair is wanted by Spokane Police for trafficking in stolen property 1st degree, felony possession of controlled substance, theft 2nd degree x2. Blair was featured on a previous blog post:

Gonzaga Security responded to Kennedy Apartments on a suspicious person report and contacted a subject near a bicycle rack. The subject stated that he was “taking a shortcut through the parking area.” The subject had a pair of bolt cutters draped over his handlebars of his bike which he stated were “for self-defense”. He was identified and trespassed from Gonzaga University property.

An attempted vehicle prowl was reported near Boone & Superior. Subject was described as about 5’10”, stocky build, wearing a dark hoody. He was last seen running eastbound through Mission Park.

December 5

A Coughlin resident reported most of her bike missing from the bike rack in the garage. Her front wheel was still firmly secured by U-lock to the the rack.

December 4

Damage to a vehicle parked on the northwest side of Dussault Apartments was reported. It appeared that an attempt was made to steal the in-dash navigation system.

December 3

A student reported most of his bike missing from the bike rack near Herak . His front wheel was still firmly secured by U-lock to the the rack.

December 2

A student reported somebody had entered his 2002 Honda Civic while it was parked on the south side of Dussault Apartments. The ignition was in the “on” position, and a pair of sunglasses were missing. there was no sign of forcible entry.

A window on a student’s vehicle was broken while it was parked near River Inn.
