Non-student Sherwin Shayegan was contacted by Gonzaga Security yesterday at Patterson Field after he entered a restricted area without authorization. Shayegan was asked to leave campus and provided directions. Shortly thereafter, Shayegan attempted to access Rudolf Fitness Center by jumping over a turnstile. He was subsequently trespassed from Gonzaga and escorted from campus. Shayegan is well-known in western Washington and Oregon for similar behavior at high school athletic events. Other area schools were alerted.

This person attempted to gain access to Rudolf Fitness Center by squeezing through a turnstile. Alert staff contacted him and asked him to leave. Campus Public Safety & Security would like to talk to him. Please call us at 313-2222 if you see him or know who he is.

March 7

Spokane Police advised Gonzaga Security of a report of shots fired in the area of Cincinnati and Sinto at about 1:18 AM. A subject in a wheelchair was subsequently arrested for discharging a firearm into the air. The weapon was seized. The subject was later cited and released. The subject is a transient, in his late 20’s.

March 2

A student reported the theft of a laptop and Ipod from his vehicle while it was parked overnight in the parking lot south of Kennedy Apartments. A window was broken to gain access.

This individual is a person of interest in regards to suspicious behavior in the area of the Burch Apartments and Martin Center.  If you happen to see him on campus, GU Security would like to talk to him. Please call 313-2222.

On Sunday February 27, 2011 at 3:42 PM, a student called campus security to report that at about 3:25 PM a male subject had followed her from Rudolf Fitness Center to her on-campus apartment. After she entered her apartment, the male knocked on the door and asked for the student by name. Without opening the door, the student’s roommate told the male to leave. He complied. Campus Security responded and contacted the male in the area, identified him as a non-student, and trespassed him from campus. The subject is described as a white male, 34 years of age, brown hair, thin build, and clean-shaven. A report has been filed with Spokane Police and they are investigating.

Gonzaga community members are reminded of the following safety tips: 

• If you have to walk, do so in groups especially after dark. Try to use well-lit, busy routes. Be aware of your surroundings.
• Utilize Security escorts to travel across campus: 313-2222.
• Utilize Saferide if you need a ride back to your residence from an off-campus location: call 568-8000.
• Report suspicious persons or circumstances immediately to GU Security (313-2222) or SPD (911).
• Always lock exterior doors to your residence, even in a residence hall.

This subject is a person of interest in thefts of computer equipment at Jepson and Foley. If you know who this is, or happen to see him on campus, GU Security would like to talk to him. Please call 313-2222.

SPD Bulletin on Cop Impersonator

This subject entered the Zag Shop in Kennedy on August 11th and entered a staff member’s office.  The subject is thought to be responsible for the theft of a purse from that office.  He initially entered campus property via a small BMX type bike with a blue frame.

The subject is wearing an Eastern Eagles hat, large black backpack, plaid shirt and shorts, white shoes.  He may be wearing clear glasses, has brown hair with medium length sideburns, and possible facial hair.

Person of interest possibly involved in theft of purse.

Spokane Police Officers responded to a robbery at the Banner Bank. The bank is inside the Safeway store at 933 E. Mission. The incident started at 5:25 in the evening on 022210. The suspect walked up to the counter and gave the banker a note. The note indicated the man had a gun and he was demanding money. Employees cooperated and he left the store with an undisclosed amount.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 40’s with pale skin and light colored hair. He had a medium to thick build and stood between 5’5 and 5’8. He was wearing glasses, a light colored stocking cap, dark colored Carhartt coat and jeans. Anyone who has information or can identify the suspect is asked to call Crime Check or 911. Due to the fact that he claimed to be armed, we ask that you not try to contact him in any way.

On Friday February 5th at approximately 6:20 AM, a suspicious male was reported to have followed a female employee on Astor as she walked to work.  When the employee would stop walking and turn around, the male would stop and stare at her. 

The employee described the man to be about 6’00”,  60 years old, caucasion, skinny, full gray beard and pock marked face.  He was wearing a beige jacket, gray sweat pants, and a dark colored stocking cap. If you see anyone matching this description on or around campus, please call GU Security at 313-2222 or 9-1-1 if necessary.

Remember that GU Security offers an escort service and you have access to Safe Ride.  Always walk in groups if you choose not to get a ride.  Be aware of your surroundings and walk in well lit areas.  Trust your instincts and notify us right away if you see anything or anyone suspicious.

Spokane Police Detectives are looking for assistance in possibly identifying these suspects in some recent vehicle thefts in the lower NE area of town.

We have received reports of individuals soliciting magazine sales at residence halls on campus. In some cases, these individuals gained access to residence halls to do so. These individuals and the company they represent, Face to Face Technologies, does not have permission to solicit on the Gonzaga campus. If you see them anywhere on campus, please contact GU Security immediately at 313-2222. Face to Face Technologies has an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau.

An important reminder: you should NEVER allow access to your residence hall to anyone who is not a resident, an authorized staff member (who should be able to provide GU identification) or accompanied by a resident or authorized staff member.

This subject was observed entering the southeast elevator lobby from Ruby On April 27. Subject is not a suspect in any crime at  this time, but GU Security would like to contact him if you see him on campus. 313-2222.
