GU Security responded to the 600 block of East Boone in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a GU employee.  No injuries were reported.

GU Security responded to the 600 block of East Mission and took a vehicle prowl report.  Sometime between midnight and 7:35 AM this date, unknown person(s) stole a GPS system and a stereo face plate from a reported locked 1998 Honda Accord.

June 10th

2:28 PM

GU Security responded to the 900 block of North Cincinnati in reference to a non-injury motor vehicle accident involving a GU employee.

9:17 PM

GU Security and Spokane Fire responded to the 700 block of East Sharp in reference to a fire alarm.  A GU student attempted to cook a steak but burned it and set off the alarm.

GU Security took a bike theft report from a GU student.  The student stated that they secured their bike with a cable lock to the bike rack at the Red Lion River Inn on 112510 at 9:00 AM and noticed it missing and the lock on the ground next to the rack on 113010 at 5:00 PM.  The student forgot to report it in November.

GU Security responded to the roof of Herak where some of the graduating Engineering students had gathered.  The group was escorted off the roof.

A GU staff member reported the vehicle prowl of a GU owned vehicle while it was parked in the area of Corkery C.  An iPhone charger and a textbook had been taken.

GU Security assisted the Spokane Police Department in looking for a possible burglary suspect. Spokane Police already had one person in custody and nobody else had been found.

A GU student reported to GU Security that an unknown person(s) had placed a brown bag of dog feces on her front porch in the area of the 1000 block of East DeSmet.

Georgetown Neighbor Fed Up with Student Parties

Two assaults reported near campus over the weekend

April 26, 2010

GU students reported that a white male, believed to be a student, “came out of nowhere” and began throwing punches at a member of their group as they were walking near Sinto and Cincinnati at 12:52 AM on April 24. When other students in their group intervened, the subject also threw punches at them until another group, also believed to be students, pulled the subject away. The students reported minor injuries, and declined treatment or a security escort. SPD searched the area for the subject, but did not locate him. The students were encouraged to report the incident to SPD via CrimeCheck. An investigation into the identity of the subject is continuing.

In another incident, A GU Student reported being assaulted at an off-campus party he believed to be in the 800 block of East Mission, sometime around 11:40 PM on April 23. The student had been asked to leave the party earlier. He reported that when he returned to the party, 4 males, possibly GU students, punched him repeatedly. The student declined medical treatment for his injuries. He was encouraged to call CrimeCheck and report the assault. An investigation into the identity of the subjects is continuing.

GU Security responded to College Hall in reference to a medical incident.

2:50 PM

A GU student reported the theft of his bike from the bike rack in the south east interior parking area of Kennedy.  He locked the bike on the 21st at 4:00 PM and noticed it gone on the 22nd at 12:00 PM.  The bike had been secured with a cable lock.

March 23rd

10:00 AM

A GU student  reported the theft of his bike from C/M.  The bike had been locked with a cable lock to the bike rack on the 22nd at 7:00 Pm and discovered missing at 9:30 AM on the 23rd.

10:00 AM

A GU staff member reported a found bike that had been left in the area of the Health Center.

3:30 PM

A GU student reported that between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM on the 23rd, unknown person(s) took the seat, rear fender and rear tail light off of his bike that was locked to the bike rack on the west side of Jepson.

5:30 PM

GU Security and Spokane Fire responded to a GU owned resident hall in reference to a fire alarm.  A GU student had pre-heated the oven and it started to smoke.

March 25th

12:15 AM

GU Security responded to a GU owned apartment building in reference to a possible dispute between 2 GU students.

A GU student reported the theft of some of his flex dollars from his account.  It was later discovered that his roommate used his flex account to order several pizzas.  The roommate paid him back and moved out of the residence.

1:05 PM

A GU student reported that she called Crime Check because her bank notified her that someone in Latvia had obtained her credit card number and was purchasing pornography with it.  This occurred between 030710 and 032310.

3:40 PM

An RA  from a GU owned resident hall reported that a 2 foot tall cement statue of Jesus was found in the day room on March 22nd around 7:00 AM.  She said that she did not know where the statue came from and thought that maybe someone had taken it from one of the campus buildings as a joke.  The owner was later found to be a resident who donated the statue to the residence hall.

March 26th

11:45 AM

An employee with Sodexo reported that one of his driver’s hit his personal vehicle with a delivery truck.  There were minor damage and no injuries.

6:30 PM

GU Security assisted Resident Life Staff at a GU owned resident hall in reference to a drug law violation investigation.

1:15 AM

SPD responded to the area of the 1000 block of E DeSmet in reference to a fight call.

7:10 PM

GU Security responded to the 700 block of E Sharp in reference to a trespasser.

GU Security responded to a GU owned resident hall in reference to a broken window.  A GU student was trying to scare his friends by pounding on the window very hard but ended up breaking the window.  The student sustained a minor cut on his finger.

GU Security and Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a GU owned resident hall.  Burnt popcorn was the source.

GU Security responded to a GU campus building in reference to a medical incident involving 3 staff memebers.

GU Security responded to a GU owned resident hall to assist Resident Life Staff with a liquor law violation investigation.

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Sinto Apartments. A GU student’s “Rice Krispy Treats” turned out to be “Rice Krusty Treats” after he burned them.


Census Workers in Your Neighborhood

CENSUS WORKERS IN THE AREA

The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years.  Census workers will be going door to door to gather necessary information from residents.  Please be advised that some criminals take advantage of this time and will pose as Census workers.  In order to help ensure your safety, please keep the following in mind:

  • Census workers will ALWAYS have an official U.S. Census ID badge marked with their name.
  • Census workers May have a “U.S. Census Bureau” bag.
  • Census workers will NEVER ask to enter your home.
  • Census workers will ONLY ask the ten questions that appear on the census form.
  • Census workers will NEVER ask for your Social Security number or any other financial information.
  • Census workers will NEVER ask or suggest that you submit information to the census online. There is no legitimate Web site for entering census information.

If you have any doubts about whether a Census worker is legitimate or not, call Security at 313-2222 or if you feel you are in danger, call 911!

10:15 AM

A GU student reported the theft of her bike from a carport in the  1100 block of N Columbus between 022110 at 3:00 PM and 022310 at 12:00 PM.  The bike was locked with a U-Lock.

8:35 PM

A GU student reported a possible burglary of her room at a GU owned resident hall.  Muddy footprints were found near the window that she left open. It was later found to have been a friend that was checking to see if she was in her room.

10:50 PM

A non-student was reported as being suspicious in the area of Madonna.  Security made contact with the subject  who appeared to be intoxicated but cooperative.  He said he was walking through campus because he didn’t want to drive because he already has one DUI and did not want to get another one.

March 2nd

12:30 AM

An unknown person activated the pull station in the basement of  a GU owned resident hall.

11:25 PM

A GU student  reported watching 2 white males attempt entry into his vehicle in the 500 block of E Mission.  The student was watching through his window and tapped on the window when the males tried the door handle to his vehicle.  The males fled the scene when they saw him.

March 3rd

5:55 PM

A GU Faculty member reported the vehicle prowl of his 1993 Subaru while it was parked in the Choral Hall parking lot.   The driver’s side window had been pried open and all that was taken was some change.

9:45 PM

GU Security responded to a GU owned resident hall in reference to a possible trespasser.

March 4th

6:25 PM

A GU student dropped some food on the burner of his stove causing the fire alarm to go off at a GU owned apartment building in the 700 block of  E Sinto.

March 5th

11:25 PM

A GU Staff member reported finding a platinum debit card on the ground on the way to work.  Records did not show a student at GU under the name on the card.

11:50 AM

A GU student  reported the theft of his 1989 Toyota Camry from the south side of Coughlin.  Surveillance video showed the vehicle being driven away south on Cincinnati at 6:50 PM on 030410.  It was too dark to see the suspect.

12:30 PM

A GU student  reported the vehicle prowl of her 1996 Honda Civic while it was parked at Tilford.  Sometime between 9:00 AM and 12:30 PM someone had gained entry through her passenger’s side door.   A laptop and a cord was taken.  No damage was done to the vehicle.

2:40 PM

A GU student reported the vehicle prowl of his 1996 Buick Sedan while it was parked at Coughlin.  CD’s and some change were taken from the vehicle.  The driver’s side wing window was broken.

March 6th

2:30 AM

A GU student reported the vehicle prowl of his 2004 Chevy Suburban while it was parked at Corkery Apartments.  Sometime between 030510 at 8:00 Pm and 030610 at 2:25 AM, someone broke his passenger’s side window.  Nothing had been taken.

March 8th

12:10 PM

A GU staff member reported the vehicle prowl of her daughter’s 1991 Toyota Echo while it was parked in the 400 block of E Mission.  The driver’s side window had been broken but nothing was taken.  The incident occurred between 1:00 AM and 8:00 AM.

2:55 PM

A GU student reported damage done to his girlfriend’s 2009 Honda Civic while it was parked behind Dooley between 030510 at 8:00 PM and 030610 at 12:00 PM.  The passenger’s side rear wing window was shattered but not broken out.  It appeared to have been shot at with a bb gun.

March 12th

10:00 AM

A GU student  reported that sometime between 031110 at 5:00 PM and 031210 at 7:20 AM unknown person(s) broke the passenger side window and wing window of his 2007 Audi while parked in the 400 block of E Sinto.  Nothing was taken out of the vehicle.

March 14th

4:20 PM

 A GU student  reported that someone broke the driver side window to his Dodge Neon and stole his stereo.  The vehicle prowl happened between 030410 at midnight and 031410 at 4:20 PM while the vehicle was parked

GU Security responded to the Boone/Hamilton Lot in reference to a vehicle prowl report. A GU student’s vehicle windown had been broken between 2:00PM  and 4:00 PM.  A silver flask and a stereo were taken.

A GU student reported to GU Security that between January 29th  at 12:00 PM and January 30th at 10:00 AM, unknown person(s) took the seat and bothtires to her bike.  The bike was secured to the bike rack with a U-Lock on the south side of building “C” at Dussault.

January 31st

GU Security responded to a GU resident hall in reference to a welfare check.

10:17 AM

A GU student reported to GU Security that on January 31st between 9:45 AM and 10:17 AM, unknown person(s) broke the window out of her vehicle that was parked in the south lot of the McCarthey parking lot and took her friend’s purse that was sitting on the front seat.  The student was parked in the lot for a short time while waiting in line for game tickets.

GU Security assisted Residence Life in a alcohol and drug law violation investigation at a GU resident hall.

During a walk-thru of the COG and WA/CAL room, GU Security found a lap top on the floor.  The owner was located on February 1st and returned.

GU Security responded to a GU building in reference to an attempted burglary.  The outside of one of the doors had shoe prints  and scuff marks on it and the frame was damaged.

6:55 PM

GU  Security responded to a GU resident hall to assist Residence Life with a possible drug law violation investigation.

January 27th

Midnight

Spokane Police called GU Dispatch to advise that they found a GU student’s vehicle, a 1990 Honda,  up on blocks and the tires and wheels had been taken off.  The car had been stolen from a GU resident hall and found a few miles off campus.  Video surveillance showed the theft occurred on January 26th at 2:20 in the afternoon.

A GU student reported the theft of his bike from the bike rack between Herak and Hughes.  The bike was stolen sometime between January 26th at 1:00 PM and January 27th at 8:00 AM.

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a GU owned apartment building in reference to a fire alarm.  A GU student burned some wash cloths on the stove by accident.

In Case You Were Wondering

January 25, 2010

Spokane Police Officers responded to an occupied burglary call in the 110 block of E Nora Sunday night at about 2 am. The homeowner got into a physical fight with the burglar who claimed to have a gun. Police quickly located a suspect at 922 E Ermina and confirmed a handgun was involved. The occupants of the apartment refused to cooperate with police. A standoff ensued for a few hours with SWAT teams deployed. A tactical resolution caused the scene to come to a peaceful end. Cody J Wolk 24 years and Peta N Shimanski 24 years were taken into custody without incident. They were booked into Spokane County jail for 1st degree burglary and 1st degree robbery. The investigation continues and more charges may be pending.

A GU student reported to GU Security that sometime between 11:00 PM on November 7th and 11:00 AM on November 8th, unknown person(s) attempted to gain entry to her vehicle via the passenger side door while the vehicle was parked near Jack & Dan’s.  On December 12th at 2:00 PM, her father pulled a shaved key out of the door lock from the passenger side of her vehicle.

3:45 PM

RA’s doing an end of semester inspection at GU owned Apartments advised GU Security that they found unathorized items in one of the apartments.

December 19th

11:40 AM

A GU student reported to GU Security that sometime between December 18th at 2:00 PM and December 19th at 10:30 AM unknown person(s) punctured her rear passenger side tire.  The vehicle was parkedin the 1300 block of N Addison.  Security noticed a second vehicle that also had a flat tire.

1:10 PM

GU Security responded to a GU residence hall in reference to unauthorized items that were found by RA’s doing end of term inspections.

December 21st

A GU Staff member reported to GU Security that she found a set of keys on the 3rd floor of Foley Library.

A Non-student reported to Security that a white male was on the ground next to the Centennial Trail west of the law school and he was unresponsive.  Security arrived and was able to wake the man, a non-student.  The man stated that he must have fallen asleep.

December 25th

4:40 PM

A pedestrian passing a GU owned building reported smelling a strong odor of natural gas.     Gas was shut off to the building and Avista was notified to repair a regulator.

December 28th

11:00 AM

A GU student called GU Security and advised that his vehicle had been stolen.  He parked his ’95 Honda Civic in the 1200 block of Pearl near Kennedy while he left for winter break.  He left on December 23rd and  on December 28th at 09:30  the vehicle was discovered missing.

12:50 PM

A police Chaplain, advised GU Security that while he was parked at Bishop White Seminary from 12:30 to 12:50, unknown person(s) broke his rear driver’s side window and stole his police scanner.  He noticed 2 white males walking westbound in the alley behind Bishop White Seminary prior to him parking his vehicle.  Officers were notified and the area was searched but could not find anyone matching the description of the white males.

A GU student reported that his bike was stolen from outside of Dussault Apartments.  The bike had been cable-locked to a tree.

A GU student reported the theft of his bike from Dussault Apartments.  The bike had been secured with a cable lock.

A GU student reported his bike stolen from the bike rack south of Dooley.  The bike had been secured with a cable lock.

A GU student reported 4 males jumping on the roof of her car in the 900 block of  E Sinto.  Spokane Police Department and GU Security responded and was able to get suspect information.  An investigation continues.

September 11

01:43 AM

GU Security observed a suspicious person in the area of Standard and Sharp.  The subject was riding a bike and was pulling another bike along side of him.  Officers turned their vehicle around to make contact and the subject fled.  Officers were able to find the bike that was in tow, abandoned in the 600 block of E Mission.

A GU student reported his red motorcycle helmet was taken from the Law School parking lot.

2:48 PM

GU Security made contact with 2 people selling magazine subscriptions to residents at CM.  They were told to advise to tell their company “Face to Face Technologies” that they could not be on GU property without prior permission from the University.

8:00 PM

A GU resident witnessed someone cut the lock off a silver bike from Coughlin Hall and ride off on it toward Trent.  Officers responded to the area but could not locate the subject.

9:45 PM

GU Security responded to a GU residence hall for a reported alcohol violation.

September 10

12:00 PM

A GU student fainted and fell to the floor while sitting in class. The student was awake and alert when security arrived and was escorted to the Health Center after refusing transport to the hospital.

1:10 PM

GU students reported a burglary of their room at a residence hall.  The door was left unlocked while the students went down the hall briefly to brush their teeth.  Money from their wallets was missing.

1:15 PM

 A GU staff member reported a suspicious person in the area of the PACCAR bike rack checking out bikes. He gave a description of the person and security was able to contact and I.D. the subject on the southwest corner of Jepson near the bike rack.  The subject appeared to be “temporarily displaced” and was just “riding through.”

An RA of a GU residence hall reported obscene drawings on the outside of a room as well as in the stairwell.

9:34 PM

A GU student reported that she thought someone was trying to get into the locked screen door at the rear of her residence in the 500 block of  E Augusta.  Officers responded but were unable to locate any suspects.  SPD put the residence on their frequent patrol log.

A  GU student reported the theft of his bike from the 1400 block of  N Lidgerwood.  The bike was U-locked to a metal fence.

4:00 PM

A GU student reported the theft of her bike from outside Crimont Hall.  The bike was U-locked to a post the night before.

An RA of a GU residence hall reported offensive writing on a whiteboard outside of a GU student’s room. 

September 8

A GU student reported the theft of some personal recording equipment from the Broadcast Building.

GU Security and Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Dooley.  Source was burnt food.

A GU student was transported to the hospital by a friend after possible reinjuring her leg and tearing out some stitches.

A GU student reported damage to his vehicle by a possible prowler in the 300 block of Chardin.  Both the driver’s side door lock and trunk lock was damaged and looked as if someone had attempted entry.

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at at Crimont Hall. More bad cooking is suspected.

Spokane Police Department  officers arrested a GU Student for public urination, minor in possession, and obstructing, after he decided to run from them when initially contacted.

GU Security assisted Residence Life Staff with an intoxicated individual in the 3rd Floor Coughlin Hall men’s restroom. The student admitted to consuming several beers earlier in the evening at an off-campus party.

A Kennedy Resident reported writing checks for magazine subscriptions, totaling over $250, after two male subjects knocked on her apartment door at Kennedy Apartment. A friend later alerted her to the hazards associated with this and reported it to GU Security.

GU Security responded to a burglary alarm at the Music Annex. Doors were secured, walk-through completed. Nothing found.

August 12

8:12 AM

A GU Student reported that a purse and wallet were missing from her off-campus residence in the 1000 block of East Sinto. She believes the items were taken between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM on August 12 while she was away from the residence, but reported that all windows and doors were locked and there was no sign of forced entry. A report was made with the Spokane Police Department.

5:24 PM

A visitor reported hit and run damage to his vehicle while parked in the Law School parking lot. A report was made with the Spokane Police Department.

8:02 PM

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a GU-owned residence in the 800 block of East Sharp. Improper application of heat to food products caused the activation of a smoke detector.

1:50 AM

A non-student was found sleeping in the the student 24-hour lounge and was asked to leave.

4:50 PM

A GU Student reported that her laptop was missing from her residence in the 500 block of East Nora. She believed that the laptop was taken sometime between 6:00 PM on July 31 and 6:00 PM on August 1. There was no sign of forced entry to the residence.

August 3

4:49 PM

GU Security received a report that a burglary to a residence and auto theft occurred in the 700 block of East Mission. The residents, all GU Students, were away for the weekend and sometime between 5:00 PM on July 31 and 8:00 PM on August 2 somebody broke the window on a vehicle parked at the residence which contained the keys to the vehicle and the residence. They then removed a TV, Wii, Xbox, 20 DVDs, 10 video games from the residence, and apparently then used the vehicle to transport the items elsewhere. A stereo was also taken from another resident’s vehicle. Entry was apparently gained through a sliding rear window on his truck. The Spokane Police Department was notified by the residents.

4:23 PM

A GU Student reported that her bike was missing from the bike rack on the Southeast corner of College Hall. The theft occurred sometime between 2:10 PM and 3:30 PM on August 3rd. The bike was secured with a cable lock.

August 1

A GU Student reported that her bike was missing from the driveway of her residence in the 500 block of East Sinto. It was not secured.

12:30 PM

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a medical incident at Catherine Monica.

July 30

7:30 AM

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Roncalli Hall. Burnt food activated a smoke detector.

7:59 AM

A GU Student reported that she found her vehicle open and cd’s taken while it was parked in the backyard of her residence in the 200 block of East Sinto between 10:15 PM on July 29 and 7:15 AM on July 30.

9:01 AM

A staff member at the Bishop White Seminary reported that a vehicle belonging to one of the residents was found open and the contents of the glove box removed. It is believed that someone entered the vehicle between 1:00 PM on July 29 and 8:45 AM on July 30.

4:29 PM

A GU Student reported that his vehicle was entered at around 1:00 AM on July 29 while parked in the 1700 block of North Lidgerwood and that his ignition switch was tampered with and contents of the glove compartment taken out. Nothing of value was reported missing.

4:36 PM

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Law School. Burnt popcorn was believed to be the source.

July 29

A GU Student reported that she found her vehicle unlocked and her GPS unit on the grass next to the car while it was parked in the 200 block of East Sharp Avenue. It is believed that somebody entered the vehicle between 11:00 PM on the July 28th and 7:00 AM on July 29th and may have been scared away.

7:30 PM

GU Security was contacted by a Law School Library staff member regarding a person of interest. The subject did not cooperate with Security requests to talk with him and he left campus near Trent. The Spokane Police Department contacted the subject and identified him. The subject had been previously warned not to come on campus in 1998 and 2001 as a result of lewd conduct in the Foley Library. GU Security re-warned the subject not to come on campus, and an investigation into the subject’s possible involvement in a recent incident at Foley Library is continuing.

July 27

A stolen vehicle was recovered in the parking lot behind the Sinto Apartments in 200 block of East Sinto.

A GU Student reported the theft of the rear wheel and front axle of a bike secured near the Bishop White Seminary in the 400 block of East Sharp sometime between 3:00 PM on July 25th and 7:00 AM on July 26th.

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a small grass and brush fire near the Riverwalk trail.

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Spikes Grill at the Cog. A heat detector was activated by steam during grill cleaning.
