A student reported the front tire of her bicycle stolen from Kennedy Apartments.   She reported the bicycle frame was secured with a U-lock, which was not taken.

July 6

A student reported his bicycle stolen in the 1000 Block of N. Dakota.  He reported he secured his bicycle with a U-lock which was also reported taken.

A student reported a bicycle stolen from her residence in the 900 Block of E Sinto.   She reported the bicycle was secured with a U-lock through the rear tire.  The U-lock was left intact with the rear tire.

June 27

A student reported a burglary at his residence in the 400 Block of E Augusta.  The student reported his checkbook, passport, and bracelet taken.  Entry was gained by breaking a small pane of glass in the rear door and unlocking the deadbolt to the door.

Spokane Police and GU security responded 1000 block of E Sinto for a burglary.  The student reported three laptops, three IPods’, and one IPad removed from the residence.  The student reported he was in his room at the time of the theft, heard noises downstairs believing it was his fellow roommates.  The student realized it was not when the thief attempted to enter the student’s room.  The thief immediately ran from the residence.  The thief is described as a white male, approximately 6’0” with a medium build and short hair.  The thief was seen wearing dark clothing and carrying a dark colored backpack.  The student also reported the back door was frequently unlocked. 

Here are some easy steps you can take to help protect your property: 

*         Lock your doors and windows. Keep curtains & blinds closed.

*         Make sure all of your exterior lights are working.

*         Report all crimes immediately. 911.

*         Report suspicious persons and activities immediately. 911.

Suspicious Persons Reported

June 22, 2011

Two female visitors to GU reported that around 10:40 PM yesterday evening (June 21), while walking in the area 1100 block of Standard near DeSmet Circle, a silver in color sedan stopped near them. There were three males in the vehicle, described as late twenties/early thirties, all with “scruffy” facial hair. The passenger asked the two if they wanted to “go for a ride”.  The two immediately went to a group of people in vicinity of the incident without making contact with the vehicle and reported the incident to a staff member.  They reported seeing the vehicle a few moments later on Dakota adjacent to Welch Residence hall and then slowly driveway towards Hamilton.

GU Security responded and checked the area for the vehicle, which could not be located.   Gonzaga community members are reminded of the following safety tips: 

  • If you have to walk, do so in groups especially after dark. Try to use well-lit, busy routes. Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Utilize Security escorts to travel across campus: 313-2222.
  • Once you are in safe place, report suspicious persons or circumstances immediately to GU Security (313-2222) or SPD (911).

A student reported seeing a person outside her bedroom window waving their hands and shining a flashlight.  GU Security responded, checked the area, and was unable to locate anyone. 

June 21

A staff member reported the theft of a student’s laptop computer from Law Library.   The student left her study area for few minutes and upon her return, the laptop was gone.  

June 19

A student reported An I-pod, CD player, subwoofer and amp were taken from her 1998 Chevrolet in the 300 block of E Mission.  . There was no sign of forced entry.

June 18

A student reported damage to his 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle parked in the 700 block of E Sinto. A student reported the theft of his bicycle from racks near College Hall.  The student reported he returned from a trip and discovered the bicycle missing.  He had secured the bicycle with a U-lock, which was still intact and connected to the rack 

A student reported the theft of her bicycle from the 1300 block of North Superior.  The student stated the bicycle was secured to a railing with a cable type lock, which was cut.

A non-student reported her 2007 Honda had been broken into in the 300 block of E. Boone.  Entry was gained by breaking the driver side window.  At the time of the report, nothing was reporting missing.

A former student reported the theft of a GPS, Digital Camera and some clothing from his vehicle while parked in the 100 block of E. Nora.  A window was broken to gain access.

June 14

A staff member reported a suspicious person in the area of Goller Residence Hall around 9:30 pm.  She reported the person appeared to be looking around the patio area.   The staff member described the person as a Hispanic male, early to mid thirties, 5’9” and approximately 160 pounds.

A staff member reported the theft of a wallet from her unlocked office at McCarthey Athletic Center.

A non-GU affiliated person reported a burglary in the 400 block of Sinto.  The reporting person stated a handbag taken from the residence while she was in the backyard.  The front door to the residence was unlocked and may have been open.

A staff member reported his 2000 Honda Accord being broken into in the 400 block of E. Sharp. Entry gained by breaking a window. No items reported missing from the vehicle.

A student reported his wallet was taken from a sidewalk in the 700 block of E. Mission.  The student stated he placed his wallet on the sidewalk and left it unattended for a few minutes and upon his return, the wallet was gone.

A staff member reported the theft of a wallet from her handbag left unattended in the gym of the Martin Center.

A staff member reported her Honda CRV parked near Dussault was broken into.  The staff member reported music CD’s and a flashlight were taken from the vehicle.  There were no signs of forced entry, but the vehicle may have been unlocked.

A visitor reported her Dodge Grand Caravan parked near Dussault was broken into.  The staff member reported $456.00 in cash taken from the vehicle.  There were no signs of forced entry.

A staff member reported his Ford Mustang parked near Dussault was broken into.  The staff member reported his IPod adapter taken.  Entry was gained by cutting through the canvas top of the vehicle.

A staff member reported his Chevy Corsica parked near Dussault was broken into.  The staff member stated a gym bag containing clothing was taken.  Entry was gained through a previously broken window.

A student reported his bicycle was taken from the bike rack at Jepson.  The student reported he had secured the bicycle with a cable lock—which was cut.

A staff member reported his Toyota Tacoma parked in the 1100 block of N. Astor was broken into.  The staff member reported a Pendleton blanket was taken from the bed area of the truck.  The blanket has since been recovered and returned to the staff member.

A student reported a bicycle theft from the Welch Hall bike rack.  The student stated he had secured the bicycle with a cable lock, which he found cut and lying on the ground.

June 5

A staff member reported a golf cart theft from the McCarthey Athletic Center.  The cart was left unsecured in the loading dock area at the time of the theft.  The cart was subsequently recovered and returned.

A staff member reported a bicycle theft from the bike rack located between Jepson and Jundt.  The staff member stated she secured the bike with a cable lock—which was cut.

A staff member reported his 10-speed bicycle was taken from the 400 block of E. Sharp.  The staff member secured the bicycle to a bike rack with a cable lock—which was cut.    

May 30

A student reported the theft of the front tire and seat of her bicycle from the bike rack near Corkery Residence Hall.  The frame of the bicycle was secured with a U-lock and was not cut.

Suspicious Person Reported

Gonzaga Security received a report of a male acting suspicious outside a residence in the 400 block of East Augusta at 12:22 AM on May 26.   The subject was described as a white male 30-40 years of age with brown hair wearing black sweats and a black hoody.   The residents called Security and Spokane Police to report the incident.  A search of the area was unable to locate the subject.


Burglary reported in 300 block of East Nora

Students reported a burglary to their off-campus residence in the 300 block of East Nora this morning at 12:22 AM.  One of the students in the residence  called Spokane Police and Gonzaga Security upon finding the basement door unlocked and open.  At this time only a  laptop was reported removed from the residence.   Access had been gained through an unlocked back door and possibly an unlocked front door.  Spokane Police are investigating.

Latest prediction is about 2-3 hours more for power restoral. Cog/Marketplace will remain open. Foley will decide at dark whether they have enough lighting to stay open safely. Crosby has closed. Power is on east of Hamilton and West of Division.

A power outage is currently effecting the Gonzaga campus. As of 5:25 PM, most residence halls are without normal power. Marian Hall appears to be the exception. The Cog is open for dinner. Foley Library is open until dark. Crosby is still open at this time. We’ve heard that power could be out 3-4 more hours.

A Kennedy resident reported his  black & grey Specialized “Hard Rock” bike stolen from outside of Duff’s. A U-bolt lock had been cut.


SPD News Release: Suspect arrested selling stolen property on Craig’s List

April 27, 2011

Spokane Police Officers arrested Sean A. Blair after he sold stolen property on Craig’s List.  Local colleges have constantly been the victims of thefts of technical equipment, schoolbooks, backpacks and purses.  Within the last week, Spokane Community College has had at least 3 Mitsubishi projectors stolen.  SCC employees found their stolen property for sale on Craig’s List and contacted SPD Neighborhood Recourse Officer Strassenberg.  The Patrol Anti Crime Team assisted with the investigation and arrested Blair for 1st degree trafficking in stolen property and 2nd degree possession of stolen property after he sold one of those stolen projectors through Craig’s List.

 We believe that Blair may have sold other stolen property to unknowing victims using Craig’s List.  We are asking for help identifying similar cases and are still looking to locate missing Mitsubishi XD model projectors that are white in color.  Blair has also been identified as a suspect in computer thefts from several local hospitals and schools.   Blair has used the name of “Alex” and claims to own “Alexander’s Financial” during his Internet sales to look and sound legitimate.  Blair is 6’1 and 160 pounds with short brown hair and may be associated with a silver colored 4 door Volkswagon We have given the Media a photograph of Blair to assist with recovering stolen property.  If anyone has purchased these kinds of items or equipment from Blair, they are asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.

Note: Blair is believed to be the “Person of Interest” in the blog post from February 2nd. Blair was  seen as he entered Foley Library on February 8, and was contacted and trespassed from Gonzaga University. Campus Security is working with Spokane Police on possible theft charges.


Occupied Residential Burglary reported in 1000 block of East Mission

Students reported a burglary to their off-campus residence in the 1000 block of East Mission this morning at 3:30 AM. One of the students observed the subjects, a white male and an African-American male both 20-25 years old, in the residence and called Spokane Police and Gonzaga Security. The subjects left with several electronics items. Access had been gained through an unlocked back door. Spokane Police are investigating.
