Monday, November 24 1:44PM

A GU student reported seeing a black male and a white male in the backyard of her residence on the 900 block of east Augusta. When the males saw the student watching them, they exited the yard to the alley, got on bikes and rode northbound on Columbus. The student contacted GU Security who transferred her to 911. GU Security responded to the location and made contact with the students. Later in the day, GU Security received a currently unconfirmed report that one of the subjects was contacted by the Spokane Police Department.

GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to an elevator with 3 students aboard stuck between floors at Madonna. The students were successfully removed from the elevator.

 

Sunday, November 23 12:30 AM

 

Two Campion residents reported being involved in a fight with another GU student at an off-campus location. The students, who appeared to have minor injuries, declined medical assistance. The students also declined to pursue charges. The other party was contacted in the 1600 block of north Standard and interviewed by Spokane Police and GU Security. He also declined to pursue charges.

A Goller resident reported that his vehicle was struck and damaged while parked in the parking lot north of Alliance sometime between 4PM and midnight Saturday. The person who struck his vehicle left $60 and a note that they did not have insurance, but did not leave their name.

 GU Security worked with GU Residence Assistants (RAs) to return an intoxicated student safely to his place of residence.

 

9:58 PM

 GU Security and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a residence in the 500 block of Sinto. No fire was found.

 

 10:32 PM

 SPD cited two GU students for Minor in Possession of Alcohol at Mission & Addison.

 3:00 PM

 GU Security completed a vehicle accident investigation and report.

 

 3:37 PM

 A GU student was observed by Crowd Management Services at a McCarthey restroom pouring a liquid substance from a flask into a soda cup. GU Security contacted the student, who admitted to the error of his ways. The student poured out his drink, handed over his flask, and was advised he would not be attending the game.

 

 11:16 PM

 While being pursued by the Spokane Police Department, an individual lost control and drove a stolen vehicle into a GU student’s vehicle parked on Boone near the Kennedy Apartments. The driver and 2 passengers then exited the vehicle. SPD caught 2 subjects immediately, but a female escaped despite an intense search which included a helicopter with a spotlight. The female was not believed to pose a threat to the GU community.

Semi-Annual Campus Walk-About

Please join Fr. Kuder, GSBA, Plant Services personnel, students, staff and faculty on November 18th at 6 p.m. starting at the Welch Hall Security Office and continuing throughout the campus. The University will conduct its semi-annual campus walk-about to assess areas of improvement. Lighting, vegetation, blue light phones, camera systems, and other matters will be assessed and discussed. Your feedback is important to us. Bring warm clothing. Hot chocolate or apple cider provided.

November 11, 2008

Gonzaga Plant Services Director Ken Sammons, who has been a relentless advocate for pedestrian safety on and near our campus, shared recently that Avista will be installing a new streetlight at the northwest corner of Hamilton & Desmet which will include a mastarm and light facing east. This should significantly improve lighting at the intersection and crosswalk.

Campo staff recognized by the American Red Cross

November 5, 2008

Three members of the GU Security Staff will be honored as Hometown Heroes by the American Red Cross at an annual ceremony and luncheon next week. Two security officers pulled to safety a woman who slid onto the ice on Lake Arthur last winter and in February of this year, a member of our communications staff handled the switchboard during an incident involving a potentially significant threat to the campus.

A Dooley resident reported a white male, 40-50 years old, with gray & black hair driving a black Dodge Durango making repeated attempts to talk with her while she was walking on Sharp near the Kennedy Apartments. When she would ignore his attempt to talk with her, he would drive ahead, pull to the curb along the sidewalk and try again. GU Security advised her to immediately contact 911 and GU Security should a similar event occur again.

A GU student called GU dispatch to advise that her friend, a Madonna resident, had walked away from the area of Montgomery & Standard alone. The student was concerned for her friend’s safety, and requested GU Security attempt to locate the Madonna resident. A GU-contracted Spokane police officer saw an individual matching her description entering Madonna a few minutes later and the RA was asked to confirm she was in her room. The RA confirmed she was safe in her room.

A GU Student reported that she believed her residence in the 900 block of East Boone had been entered while she was gone; no evidence of forced entry was found and nothing is known to be missing at this time.

     

Spokane Police Arrest Logan Neighborhood Robbery Suspects

The Spokane Police Department has made three arrests in connection with the recent robberies in the Logan Neighborhood, and are looking for at least 3 other suspects. We’ll provide more information as we collect all the details. Even with the arrests, we encourage all of our community members to continue to make good decisions about their personal safety and to report crimes and any suspicious activities or persons immediately to SPD (911) and GU Security (313-2222).
