Gurian Awards Honor Excellence in Student Writing

SPOKANE, Wash.—

Last Tuesday, April 11, Gonzaga University’s English Department presented the 2017 Michael and Gail Gurian Writing Awards to ten students, recognizing excellence in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. $250 in prize money is awarded in each genre. The contest is open to all undergraduates.

The awards were presented during the most recent Gonzaga University Visiting Writers Series, which featured Brian Bedard, Professor Emeritus of English at University of South Dakota and an instructor at Gonzaga, who has himself received numerous awards for his fiction.

The following is a list of this year’s prize winners.

Poetry:
