Scenario: Antisemitism remark

During a discussion of the history of World War II, a student suggest that Hitler was a great leader and makes antisemitism remarks.

This is a scenario that happened in the classroom of a member of the Productive Discomfort cohort. The group discussed possible responses, including:

• Hit the pause button. Ask for context and reflection.
• Remember to breathe and be OK with silence
• Label your feelings
• This was a difficult scenario for the group because of its shocking nature. Most participants thought the comment merited stopping class and addressing antisemitism for the rest of the class period.
