Meeting President Obama

ROTC Cadet and Gonzaga nursing student Kelly Barry was fortunate enough to meet President Obama at Arlington National Cemetery this May. Kelly was staying in Washington DC with her boyfriend’s family for a month prior to Army training. Her boyfriend’s father is a career army office—a Major General who works with President Obama. They were invited as guests to attend the Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington. Kelly recounts, “[At Arlington] we were escorted to a foyer area where everyone gathered before heading out onto the steps. There we met several other people, to include high ranking officers and governmental officials. While exciting and an honor to meet these individuals it was also kind of terrifying! The ceremony was beautiful and I am so appreciative that I was allowed to attend.” After the ceremony Kelly was privileged to meet the President, “He asked what I was majoring in and we exchanged light conversation regarding nursing. Our encounter was brief…but we were able to capture some pictures to preserve the moment.”
