Take a doctoral class in Colombia!

We have a beautiful partnership with two Jesuit universities in Colombia which are among the finest universities in South America.

If you want a wonderful international experience, you may want to consider this class.

I’ve been there, and Colombia will touch your soul and give you a new vision of the world!

This class is taught by our very own Dr. Lazi Topuzova, whose expertise areas include leadership and international democracy, peace studies, and social justice.

DPLS 777/ORGL 690: Leadership and Accompaniment

Residency in Cali, Colombia: May 20 – June 2, 2013

Entire course pre- and post- via Blackboard: Summer 2013

Program Cost: $2900

Cost includes: Tuition for three credits, accommodations for the 2 weeks in Colombia, most group meals, local group transportation, AirMed, and International Student Identity Card.

This course is in partnership with Javeriana University in Cali which is a sister Jesuit University we have a partnership with. Students will engage directly with local community leaders and will gain first hand experience of asset-based community development models. Students will learn how to conduct a needs assessment and how to apply leadership and social responsibility frameworks on the individual, mezzo and macro levels. Further, they will learn strategies for thinking and practicing ethical leadership, and will have increased self-awareness and cultural sensitivity through critical reflection and action.

The course is 8 weeks long, with 2 weeks on site in Colombia and 6 weeks follow-up online. Here is a bit more on the schedule:

Orientation/ Pre-departure: Online on Blackboard (one week)

Week 1 in Colombia: Introduction to the local context (guest lectures); day visits to the local community-based organization (CBO);

Week 2 in Colombia: reflection and work with Javeriana peers and faculty on project and experience; manage and analyze the data collected;

Saturdays – day trips to historic sites and/ or cultural events; Sundays: day off.

Online follow-up: on Blackboard (5 weeks): Reflection on the two-week experience; Prepare final report in English to be shared with Javeriana;
