Hello Prospective Students!

I just want to let you all know about a great organization there is at Gonzaga. It is called the Gonzaga Student Body Association! Basically, it is your typical Student Body Association but wayyyyy cooler. Each class has it’s own class officers, then there is an exectutive board (Speaker of the Senate, Treasurer, VP, and President) as well as Gonzaga Activities Board (GAB), which puts on all sorts of concerts, lectures, speakers, and other fun activities! This is my first year being involved in GSBA, and I am an Off-Campus Senator (there are 24 total senators). Through my expierence as a Senator I have gotten to serve on the Athletic Council, where I get to meet with all the Assistant Athletic Directors, and the Athletic Director, Mike Roth, as well as many other athletic staff. Also, I have served on the Academic Committee and the Neighborhood Community Coalition. I cannot say enough how valuable and rewarding it is to get to meet the administrators at the University, as well as great work expierence.

If you are thinking about coming to Gonzaga, think about applying for GSBA because it is awesome!!! Also, GSBA is a great way to work on prjects you are super passionate about. For instance, one of our senators has undertaken a mural project on the backside of Crosby, another senator is working to get a Green Fund going at Gonzaga, and yet another one has started a Sexual Health Awareness program on campus.

Thanks a ton and come to GU!

After a long, long, long time away from Gonzaga, it is so nice (although a little exhaustive) to get back into the swing of things. I was welcomed back by 2 snow storms the first 2 days of class (ugh that school wasn’t canceled!)

First off, it was time to stock up the pantry for second semester. Living off-campus is quite cool, but also can be challenging at times. I live with 4 of my best friends, only 1 of whom I knew before getting to GU. Also, off-campus living is one thing that is often over looked when applying to college. Here at GU an average house has 4-5 bedrooms with 2-3 baths and a kitchen and 2 living rooms. The rent per person (with each person getting their own room) is, on average about $340 dollars a month excluding about $40 per person for utilities (although if you live in a house with guys who play a lot of video games, use a hot tub, and never turn off the heat, the bill might be a little higher). I know that this is a lot less then some of my friends are paying at the schools they go to for off campus houses. Also, I would like to make the point that you are required to live on campus your freshmen and sophomore year, and many juniors and seniors choose to live on campus.

I have truly loved living off campus for a number of reasons. I finally have to pay my own bills and am completely responsible for taking care of myself. Also, if it snows, you are required to shovel your driveway within 24 hours. You have to take the trash out yourself, cook yourself (although I kept a meal plan too), and all in all take a lot more responsibility than in dorm life. Also, I have had a chance to bond beyond belief with my 4 housemates.

Some draw backs are that it is about a 5 minute walk to campus which can be a drag in the snow, rain and other elements Spokane can throw at you. Also, the additional responsibility can sometimes be a bit much in addition to school work. But those are the only draw backs and as a whole I have had an incredible experience with all parties involved in off-campus housing.

Signing off for now,

I cannot believe that it is mid-November and the weather is starting to change. Here in Spokane we saw our first significant snowfall this last weekend and it was gorgeous! Nothing makes me more happy than seeing our campus covered in a beautiful blanket of white snow. It is one of the prettiest settings to see the campus in, especially with the lights of St. Al’s shinning over the freshly fallen snow.

A lot has happened since my last post in my life of an ordinary GU student! Lets see, first off, as always a quick update on our stellar mens basketball team! We had 82 tents of students camp out for the last home game against WSU last Monday, thats roughly 450 students camping out last Sunday night for the best seats in the house against our first huge home game of the season, which was broadcast on ESPN! It was the craziest I have ever seen the Kennel and the place was ROCKING!!! Oh and we won, in case anyone had some doubt!

Also, last Thursday night, instead of studying (shhh! don’t tell my mom!), some friends and I went and saw Macklemore perform at a concert in North Spokane. In case you don’t know who Macklemore is, he is a huge up and coming hip-hop artist from Seattle. Even though it was a Whitworth Concert, the vastly Gonzaga crowd got a G-O-N-Z-A-G-A chant going between one of his songs, truly showing what a force Gonzaga is! The concert itself was preformed at the coolest venue, the place is called “The Service Station” and it is a large coffee shop connected to a large auditorium that has an awesome concert atmosphere! AHHH IT WAS SUCH A GREAT CONCERT!!!

Anyhow, that is mostly whats been going on in my life, oh and I won this weeks game of Fantasy Football, no big deal! Until next time!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow!! Fall family weekend was incredibly busy but so, so, so much fun! It was really nice because my parents AND grandparents came up to visit me up at Gonzaga. It was really cool because they got to see the new house I moved into this year and got to meet the housemates they didn’t already know. Friday night we went to my favorite new Spokane restaurant, Mizuna’s (if you visit GU, this is a must!) with two of my best friends. Then Saturday I was busy all day selling Kennel Club t-shirts while my parents went to Greenbluff (one of the coolest things about Spokane), which is a huge area north of town where there are 40+ farms that sell pumpkins and apples and all types of cool things, as well as pumpkin canons, hay rides, and corn mazes! By far the best part of the weekend was watching the intra-squad basketball scrimmage known as Kraziness in the Kennel! Man oh man does our team look great! The stand out was Freshman Kevin Pangos who scored 16 points in the 15 minute scrimmage! I can’t wait for our first game this Friday! Also, check out the attached YouTube video to see the actual zombie nation at this years Kraziness!!

Go Zags!!!
