The Schoenberg Center at the southwest corner of campus is an international hub at Gonzaga. The building houses the Center for Global Engagement, English as a Second Language (ESL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programs, as well as the International Student Program (ISP). Gonzaga’s Study Abroad program plans to move into the facility soon.
The ISP office is assisting 24 incoming undergraduates from 15 countries, 18 new graduate students from 14 countries, six undergraduate exchange students from Australia, Japan and the Netherlands, as well as four visiting Chinese law students.
Raymond Reyes, Associate Academic Vice President and Interim Director of the Center for Global Engagement, has now gotten settled into his new digs in Schoenberg, from which he will oversee Gonzaga’s many global opportunities that send students to places ranging from the backcountry in Zambia to the Amazon jungle.
“There is a major restructuring of ‘all things international education’ at GU,” Reyes says. “By that I mean we are focusing on the intersect where we bring the world to GU and at the same time take GU to the world. This is an exciting time for Gonzaga as we animate the vision St. Ignatius had for Jesuit higher education as it relates to the 21st century. We are moving in the spirit which moved Francis Xavier, Mateo Richie, and the other original companions of Ignatius as they also worked in the global cross-cultural nexus more than 450 years ago.”
