Weekend to Remember

Kristen Little '11

Hello, my name is Kristen Little and I am currently a senior at GU. I’m an Applied Communications major and a Promotion minor. I will be blogging from a student’s perspective about various events that happen around the Gonzaga Campus.

This weekend was bursting with energy as we welcomed alumni and parents to campus, and even a little rain couldn’t hold back the festivities. I had the pleasure of attending the alumni barbeque, and as I interviewed various alumni, I felt a continued sense of pride and community. I was surprised by how many alums are still in contact with each other even after 20 or 30 years – and congratulations to the class of ’85 who had around 90 alumni come back for their reunion. I spoke with one alumnus who said their friends couldn’t wait for the 10 year reunion and hosted their own five year reunion.

Everyone I talked with raved about their experience at GU, recalling favorite memories of sneaking ice cream from the COG or late night study sessions in the library that is now Crosby, the Student Activities Center. Many of the alumni were surprised by all the new buildings around campus and the increase in size; and although GU has dramatically increased in size since many attended GU, the sense of community and family is still very much present. A sense of community that would not be possible without all the support from our alumni, and those that want to continue that sense of community for future Zags.

As a senior, I began to think about where I will be in 10 years and what stories I will have to tell at my 10 year reunion. After speaking with the alumni it gave me hope that after I graduate in spring, I will continue to feel a sense of community and that the Zag spirit continues to live on.
