National Gonzaga Day – Giving Globally

“WE ARE ZAGS,” the banners declared as they blanketed the student section at McCarthey Athletic Center during halftime at the men’s basketball game on January 25, 2014. Zags from all walks of life united at the men’s basketball game against BYU, at 34 different alumni chapter events around the world and tuned in online to celebrate the global impact of Gonzaga University. The energy was electric. People wearing their Bulldogs gear greeted each other saying, “go Zags” like it was their own form of “aloha.”

The second annual National Gonzaga Day helped to bring awareness to Gonzaga’s global impact, which is made possible by gifts from alumni, parents and friends. These gifts help offer students opportunities to study abroad. They help Gonzaga host speakers and scholars from other cultures to share global perspectives. They help give students from around the globe the chance to bring their unique culture and viewpoints to the campus in Spokane. Students like Lisha Sosa (’14), who, through scholarship was able to come from Belize to study at Gonzaga. Read more about Lisha and the gifts that made her experience possible. On National Gonzaga Day and every day, we are grateful for the support that makes the Gonzaga Experience possible, here and abroad.

Also made possible by donor support and widely discussed on National Gonzaga Day was the new home of Gonzaga’s Center for Global Engagement, photos and renderings of which can be seen on the Hemmingson Center website. You can make a gift to help further the vision of engagement and collaborative spaces planned for the Hemmingson Center.

Thank you to all who celebrated National Gonzaga Day, recognizing the value that our Catholic, Jesuit and humanistic approach to education brings to the local community and people all over the world. If you missed it or would like to see it again, watch the 2014 National Gonzaga Day video, which highlights the global aspects of a Gonzaga Education.
