President McCulloh sometimes describes the University as “The City of Gonzaga,” and it’s no wonder. When you add together the total student population, faculty, staff, and volunteers, it is a community of some 9,000. Gonzaga has its own police force (Campus Security); maintains its own garbage disposal unit; oversees multiple contracts; and has its own governing system. This “city” offers housing, eateries, retail shopping, health services, recreation, and of course above all, educational opportunities.
The complexities – and cost – of running this community is not readily apparent to most of its members, but it is substantial. Thankfully, thousands of donors, every year, step up with unrestricted support to help assure that the City of Gonzaga remains a vibrant community.
