The job marketplace is challenging for new grads and seasoned professionals alike – and that is why Gonzaga University is stepping up to help all Zags, from current students to alumni, navigate the changing landscape together. The Career Center and the Gonzaga Alumni Mentor Program (GAMP) has developed the Hire A Zag program, an initiative dedicated to connecting Zags for jobs. Hire a Zag provides access to services, including one-on-one training, ZagTrax job search engine, resume building, connecting with mentors and more.
The program, as GU student Veronica Atkinson (’13) explains, benefits both the employer and the potential employee. Hire A Zag “helps a potential employer get recognized by students, whether they are looking for an internship or full-time position,” Atkinson said. Many students use this service, which includes job fairs and listings, as a way to network with potential employers.
Furthermore, if an employer is in need of candidates for a position, they can utilize the program as a recruiting tool to meet a number of qualified GU students. By registering with the Hire A Zag service, employers can stay informed of upcoming events and career fairs as well as post jobs and internships. “Employers find students who can be competitive and successful in the real world,” said Atkinson, who is majoring in Applied Communications and minoring in Public Relations and English.
“An employer should hire a Zag because Gonzaga students are well-rounded,” Atkinson added. “They are ready to take on the demands of the competitive global market, and have leadership skills from the experiences and opportunities they have encountered on campus.”
