While summer may be winding down, marking an end to gluttonous barbecues and those relaxing days on the lake, the Gonzaga campus is just beginning to regain its usual vigor.
Students returned to campus over the weekend, moving into various residence halls and apartments on campus as well as houses around the Logan neighborhood. Some arrived with a minimal amount of stuff while others crammed cars, trailers and moving vans full of things that just couldn’t be left behind, like mini refrigerators and big-screen TVs.
Regardless of their load, all students and their parents were greeted by Gonzaga faculty and staff, which passed out Krispy Kreme donuts throughout the first day of orientation.
In addition to returning students, approximately 1,100 freshmen are joining the Gonzaga family this academic year. That pushes GU’s undergraduate total to around 4,800 and its total student population to roughly 7,900.
Today marks the first full day of classes for all students. And while every new academic year is met with a certain level of anticipation, this year promises to be one of the most memorable yet. The upcoming school year will be chock-full of special events and dates commemorating Gonzaga’s 125th Anniversary. Included among the highlights throughout the next few weeks are the Presidential Speaker Series, featuring Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Thomas L. Friedman, and Anniversary Celebration Week, which features Mass of the Holy Spirit, Pilgrimage and the Historic First Day of Classes.
