Are you a fan of St. Ignatius? Are you an art lover? And are you big on Gonzaga? Then you might be interested in purchasing one of the few remaining 16-inch “maquettes” of the sculpture of St. Ignatius called Meditation. Sculptor George Carlson created the nine-foot statue that stands before the main entrance to College Hall on campus. He also made a limited number of smaller versions – called maquettes – of this wonderful piece of art. Only 50 were made, and just a few are left.
Each cast is signed, numbered, and includes an artist’s letter of authenticity. As in all of his work, Mr. Carlson attended to each piece by completing the metal and wax chasing and patina finishing by hand. Each cast includes a brass plate identifying the date completed, title, edition, and artist’s name.
The maquettes are offered at $5,000 apiece. Proceeds from the sale of the maquettes will be used to maintain the plaza, garden, and fountain where the main statue is installed.
