What Students Should Know About Summer Jobs.
Even though it is only February, students can begin applying for summer financial aid or federal work study on Monday, March 15! That is the date the Summer Financial Aid Application is available to students in the Financial Aid Office, College Hall 129. Summer officially begins May 10.
This Summer Financial Aid Application is a simple one page document that will be reviewed by a financial aid counselor to determine financial aid for taking summer classes and/or federal work study eligibility for summer.
Students who are eligible for federal work study during the academic year can apply for FWS during the summer and work on campus. Students do not have to be taking summer classes to be eligible for summer work study. Students do have to have filed their 2010-2011 FAFSA. There are two Summer Sessions so students can work as much or as little as they want and still make it home for part of the time. A list of summer FWS jobs will be available in Student Employment the beginning of April.
For those students looking for an institutional job this summer, the best strategy is to begin looking NOW! The campus is scaled down during the summer and only departments can determine whether they have the institutional funds to hire a student. Students should think about where they might want to work and inquire directly with those departments NOW about a summer institutional position. A short list of institutional jobs will be available in Student Employment the middle to end of April.
Questions should be directed to the Student Employment Office, College Hall 126 or guevara@gonzaga.edu.
